Don't know, just an ER Tech man doing what I was told. Now that I think about it, yeah should have done it in the preggo result room.
In other good news, few weeks ago we had a walk in with chest pain, and diaphoretic, 50 something male. Confirm MI with the 12. Cath team called.
He codes, I jump on his chest. He becomes conscious. "What happen?". Cardiologist is there, but not the whole team. He is shockable. Cardiologist zaps him. "Ouch!". Codes again. I start compressions again. Pulse back. Goes to the cath lab. Successful. Should follow up with some of the ICU nurses

She came to the floor as I was leaving for the day. I was supposed to have her that night, but she died the afternoon before I got onto shift so I really don't know specifics aside from what I'm hearing. L&D noticed the baby's heart rate was dropping, checked on the mom, and found her unresponsive. They did an emergency C-section and she wouldn't stop bleeding. She was intubated and sent to my floor. When they found out where she was bleeding from, they took her down to have a hysterectomy, but she died on the table. She had an amniotic fluid embolism that also led to DIC? The PCCM doctors were talking about it when I came onto shift that night. She had some history of clotting problems, but I'm not sure what it was specifically.

you don't even know
any medical equip that requires battery backup needs to be plugged in. Telling this to a nurse is like talking to a wall, even the murses sometimes.
they think it all runs on magic.

The embolism occurs prior to delivery (edit, or at delivery I believe.) The DIC is a result of the embolism, not the route of delivery. You have to get the baby out STAT so that means C/S.
I';ve witnessed it once, mom didnt make it, baby was OK. She had a history of dry cough, was in to be induced for some no-good-reason (before c/s were a hot topic) and also had a pulmonology consult. Started coughing uncontrollably, then seizing and foaming. I was in another c/s when they called us to the next room and brought her in. I became the "runner" because of some logistical problems and had to go back in her room where her son and her sister were sitting there. The whole thing was absolutely heart wrenching .
APPARENTLY, according to the MFM, this dry cough can occur prior to one being thrown? If Im ever pregnant and cough, panic/100000000000.Last edited by spicyprice; 11-25-2015 at 04:40 AM.

Ah, that would make sense. I've never seen it reported like that and I keep hearing it in rounds and seeing it on signout and havent had a chance to ask. None of the nurses there know.
Now I can't remember if they are reporting the coombs separately (A+/-, coombs neg) but ill look next time.
Thanks! What's Spicy Training For?? LIFE MOTHER F-ER!
