Yeah, that 35 looks just like the Hofmanns I have seen, minus the logo. It might be an earlier run, I suppose.

One of the gyms I train at has Universal 45lb plates in a rosemary/green colour. Nice looking plates with a good cast. Universal machines were very popular back in the day, and if you have a look in Bill Pearls book Getting stronger, you'll see many of the machines in the outline drawings are exact outlines of universal machines, or stations of the old Universal multigym. This multigym has a place in my heart as the very first proper gym I trained at had two of them. You may come across them in military bases, stashed away somewhere, as there used to be various standards set/based on these exact machines, which must be met by military personnel.

I have that same Universal in my gym at home...I have a love hate relationship with it. It takes up a lot of room but at the same time allows me a lot of variation from a free weight workout. I love the shoulder press on it. I have a bar rigged across the shoulder press that allows me to do calf raises. Works well.

Similar, but different. Aside from not having the signature H logo, there is no KG marking and the spokes don't get out as close to the lip.

My High School had one too! I first started working out with it and the free weight YORKS our gym had. We only had dumbbells up to 45 pounds.
I really loved the Universal; the neutral grip pull-up station was great for doing leg lifts where you would turn yourself completely upside down and put your feet on the ceiling!
Only thing I didn't care for was the lat pull-down. You had to load up a barbell, or curl bar to weigh yourself down if doing sufficiently heavy pulls. I guess it was intended that if you could pull that much, you'd just do pull-ups.

There are a few threads on IH about these plates. MUTaSAN or Rockettrucker may know.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

I think the larger one is a 70lb, at least that is what it looks like to me. I should probably weigh it tomorrow then I'd know for sure. Unfortunately, I only have one of each dumbbell.

    Question

I found a Universal Stand alone Shoulder Press for $150. Not sure if it's worth going for? I've been wanting to replace my Powertec Leverage Workbench but not sure if it's worth it?

I love the shoulder station on mine, perfect to do some wicked drop sets after a workout. I have never used the Powertec but I would definitely recommend the Universal.

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

I believe the ones of you who have said Hofmanns are correct. Below the "MADE IN USA" specifically below the N and the U are what appears to be an SS. Based on Atty's ID of my 2.5lb plate in the other thread, I think this would be a Hofmann.

I like those smaller globes... they look very well cast. Any idea why the one on the right has such a long handle?

What are the dumbbell handles on the left? Custom PDA?

When we would visit new people (when my kids were small), they would always ask "Where's your Iron Game Room" ?? They think everyone has one.
Thats how my girls were brought up. Now they know I'm a unique breed (like many of you) but here is our downstairs play room:
(It finally worked out when we visited Mike BonDurant (Muscle Museum) and my friend Carl Linich (Old Time Strongman).

Bob is doing well, recovered from his mishap a year or so ago... Sucks to get old, but like he and Carl say "Keep Breathing Defiance"!!

Both of those Iron Men are creeping up on 80 years old. I'll never see that age...
