    Protein in egg whites

So, guys I don't really know how to measure the protein in egg whites.

    http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/...products/112/2

From this, it says that 1 cup (I googled that 1 cup is equivalent to 8 egg whites) is 26 proteins.

Is that even true lol? I can't at how low the protein is (it is high among other food).

I'm just concern on my protein intake because I can't have meat meals everyday, and I consume an average of 6 egg whites a day + random protein sources.

Looks about right to me. I have egg whites in a carton and for about 200 - 215g (roughly 1 cup) it's 120 calories.

Why do you think many people are whole egg supporters? It takes quite a few egg whites just to get enough calories considering the yolk contains almost half the protein + the calorie dense fats.

But if you determined on the whites method, then get used to having to eat more.

    In general?

So, for a guy with a 150lbs LBM, I need to have 38 egg whites just to fulfill the 1g of protein = 1lb of LBM rule? Wow, that's a lot. I never thought it could be that much..

I thought 10 egg whites are overkill.

The problem saying 1 egg white = ??? is that the size of the egg white can vary. However it's probably close enough where I wouldn't fret.

I am a little concerned though if you're actually thinking of eating ~38 'egg whites' a day instead of using some variety, unless you're just making an observation.

Why would you want to get all your protein from egg whites.

Of course, it's just a referral on general.

Just an example, given that I don't have other protein sources ----VV

I don't, but I don't have much protein sources either. I can't have meat everyday, and I can't get a protein shake because they don't sell it here (don't ask me to find it because that would need a lengthy post).

If you eat 3 jumbo eggs, including the yolk, then you get the same amount of protein as in your example quoted above. And it tastes a heck of a lot better (to me).

if you had 38 egg whites that would be 152g protein. you dont need to use just egg whites for a protein source.

If you had say 6 egg whites for breakfast, that would be 24g of the 150g protein for the day. Split the rest of your needs over 4-6 small meals.

You don't have to do 4-6 small meals, and you can eat when you want, but for a noob, it would be better to give him structure. When he starts to learn, then he can do it to fit his schedule.

Problem is you are stating it without a qualifier... we need to get rid of all this brotastic dogma since it's still generally regarded as truth

This isn't about truths or bro science. I'm trying to simplify his concerns a little because he is obviously confused about eating. Most people eat 3-4 times a day anyway. Many bodybuilders back in the older days never really ate full meals, but grazed all day. But that's neither here nor there.

No it isn't, that's why you qualify your statement or alter it:

"Split it out as you want over the day, I prefer 4-6." if you need to get that number in there.

Oh, and you said 4-6 (5-7 all inclusive), not 3-4... you are not simplifying things by teaching him broscience and stating absolutes

I dont really understand whats the problem with eating 4-6 small meals a day? If you're just in the mood to argue for the sake of arguing, you're barking up the wrong tree.

How many times do you eat a day?

There isn't a problem with it, the problem stems from people believing that this is somehow necessary.

Posters just see the high meal frequency, assume you got that info from Men's Health mag and flame you for not knowing about nutrition.

I eat 5 meals a day because it's my personal preference.

You're missing the point. I'm just trying to make you realize that recommending 4-6 (actually 5-7) meals a day is broscience.

    I eat between 2 and 5 times a day
