Is it ok to squat with a smith machine?
I'm new to squating and I think it'll be safer to use it to squat.
Are there disadvantages of doing this instead of just using a free weight?
Thanks,

stick to barbell man
it allows full range of motion, although you may not be able to lift as much and feel as strong when you stack up like 4 plates on each side on a smith machine
free weight squatting has been known to stimuate muscle growth in lower body, make sure you're squatting deep enough to avoid using too much of your kneesIIFYM - Try to get most of your macros from whole foods. They are high in micronutrients and are needed to maintain overall health
