Continuing on my Oscar buzz watching spree I just finished unbroken. I went in expecting a slow moving movie because of the subject matter and it is. I'm guessing it is a pretty accurate movie as far as the horrors that POWs went through. Worth a watch but don't expect action, expect realistic brutality that can make a person uneasy.
It's not your beliefs that make you a better person, it's your behavior.

    Watched two movies tonight.

"The gambler" staring Mark Whalberg. Really wanted to like this one but found it kind of blah. Have to say I did like John Goodman in it though.

"Jessabell" decent thriller albeit it gets a bit predictable near the end.

I saw it a second time and liked it. I think I didnt like it because I was expecting an action movie of sorts the first time. And yes I agree john goodman was excellent in the acting role he played and did an awesome job.

I saw the wedding ringer and got a good amount of laughs out of it but it also has its serious moments.

A walk among the Tombstones starring Liam Neeson was ok, had a few good moments and I loved the Bert & Ernie act line he gave. Overall though it's slow moving and dull at times.

    Well....

As I stated in another thread the wife is out of town visiting family and 300: Rise Of The Empire is starting in a few minutes on HBO-E.
I've loved the ancient history for some time so I'm interested in seeing how they portray Themisticles and the naval battles.
My significantly better half doesn't care for that genre so much.

I will presume it's more of a blood bath for the most part but I'm curious if they will adhere to some historical facts.

Will advise....it's starting now....back at it.

EDIT: it was OK with the obligatory stunning battle scenes and the movie went pretty quickly.
If one likes the genre I'd say see it once.

Saw American Sniper tonight. Wasn't quite what I expected but worth seeing. Cooper should get an Oscar for it IMO but I bet they give it to either one of the Brits, probably the guy playing Hawking because of Acadamies favoritism towards actors playing people with disabilities.

DVR'd the movie Alex Cross with Tyler Perry and at first I wasn't into it and almost turned it off and deleted the thing. But it ended up sucking me in and I actually enjoyed it, decent plot and one hell of a bad guy.

    Thumbs up The Brass Teapot

    10/10 Movie, on Netflix.

Basically a young couple gets a magical Brass Teapot and then this version of The Gift of the Magi ensues. Can't wait to watch it again.

I'm just amazed the Clint Eastwood is directing movies at 84, and pretty dang good movies too!

There is a private screen on American Sniper I'm going to next week. Afterwards some special ops types are giving a presentation. I may have to re-read the book this week end. I'm taking some fellow angry, raging, PTSD vets with me so hide the children.

Saw Fury last night and was very disappointed. The only good scenes were the Tiger tank battle and the montage during the ending credits. Too many contrived scenes and no company of Waffen SS unsupported infantry is going to do a frontal assault on a disabled tank with no infantry protection. At the very least they would simply by pass it.

Saw Edge of Tomorrow last night.
Perfect to keep my mind off things. Nothing complicated. The aliens are bad, they all get killed and he gets the girl at the end.

It was really really good. I like how they got into the life of each competitors. So many differences in personality and training style. I had not followed Mr. Universe in years and I found myself rooting for a few of the guys during the movie.
Now on Netflix, watched it last night. Chronicles the year of many of the bodybuilders leading up to the Olympia.

I wish they had a little more with Jay Cutler but he has basically his own industry, so I understand there were probably conflict issues there. The insight into the chase for the Olympia is well worth a watch for anyone who has ever tried to make a small muscle larger. Plenty of "before and afters" that will amaze you.

I really liked the movie and thought the whole cast did a good job especially brad pitt. Some people like different types of movies but thats what keeps this world interesting.

    SpongeBob sponge out of water

A deeply introspective film noir. Reminiscent of citizen Kane in its portrayal of the modern day struggles a man has with his inner demons. Magnificent acting and thought provoking writing, this is a must see film that will make you rethink everything you hold true.

John Wick starring Keanu Reeves, was pretty good. Decent storyline and a massive bodycount, if you are into violence, guns and simply want to be entertained, give this one a look.

    Just watched John Wick.
Crazy action and body count like Corbi said.

Lots of humor in it as well. Though its not a comedy.

He was a killer that left the business and got married. Just days after his wife died. They stole his car and killed his dog.
Anyone and everyone that gets in his way dies. He's unstoppable.

I loved the line which went something like "so this guy is the boogey man?" and the answer "no, he's the one you send to kill the boogey man".

If the Hoff didn't make a cameo, then no see. Simple as dat.

Did watch Whiplash. For what it is, it's good. Excellent acting, but it's still the same formula of an a**hole pushing a young'un to excel because the teacher was a failure in real life (comparatively speaking).

Wife made me watch Transcendance. I wish that I hadn't.

Finally got to see Whiplash. The music director character is way over-the-top.. BUT.. J.K. Simmons does such a fantastic job with it! He pretty much steals the show. Over all, the movie is pretty good. Definitely not a great masterpiece as the hype would have it.

Most enjoyable reeves movie I've seen in a long time. Took about 20min to get going but once it did it was really good. Lots of awesome kill shots
