Deffintly glad for all the advice and I feel a lot better knowing that its not completly lost. I did stand up and give her the ultimatum that it was me or the alcohol and that i wasnt willing to put up with this anymore. Shes agreed to stay in rehab again for a while to get more help and has admited that she cant be alone for right now untill she rebuilds her social network with friends that dont drink. She was doing the right thing and cut off all of her alcoholic friends that were no good for her, unfortainitly that left her with no friends at all and with me gone she just felt to alone and I think that led to her relapse combined with a friend being murdered. Talking to her this morning she said after she gets out shes going to stay at her parents untill i get home to allow her time to build a new social group and get a good sponser. She knows what she needs to do, lord knows she stuborn enough to do it, its just a matter of sheing if shell follow through.

it's all good, brother, until it is not good. i hope she does follow thru. when i put the drink down, i simply immersed myself into AA.....5 or 6 meetings a day. this went on for 3 years. AA became my social life. to this day, i haven't even spoken to my old drinking buddies. funny....such good friends, not one called to ask where i've been.
i guess my point is.....getting sober is job 1.

Morning All
Just thought I would leave this here,
"As long as the ties that bind us together are stronger than those that would tear us apart, all will be well."
I feel a strong bond with so many of you.

Man...great thread. I have read so much positive, and supportive stuff in here. I am in my 4th year of sobriety and life has been nothing but positive since I put the bottle down.
Just wanted to say hi and excellent job to all of you that have remained sober and to those of you that are trying like hell to beat it!A goal without a vision is nothing more than a dream!~me~

Good morning, sober peeps!
Think I'm gonna change home groups too. Mine has become a bit riddled with AA politics, and I just feel it's time to move on. It's like I dread going there, but somehow feel obligated because it's my home group and that's where I got sober. I am very appreciative for all of the help and support I have gotten there. I'm thinking a strong women's group would do me some good right now. Will be checking out a few in the next month or so.

I miss the early times. Get a chip every 30 days. now I gotta wait a whole year to get recognised
Dont they know who I think I am.
Our leaders are but trusted servants, they do not govern. That tells me they aint running chit. I have and always will voice my opinion if if it gets out of principle.
My home group turned into a meetmarket. maybe it always was and the clarity finally kicked in. I have a commitment at a local Rehab every Fri. but all my other meetings are scattered. where I live there are no lack of meetings. I've got 3 club house's and numerous rehabs. 1 Nomad meeting and can still find old school at someones home kinda meetings.Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude. – Thomas Jefferson

Yeah, a little time away can be a good thing! I was the secretary for this group for 2 years, attended every group conscious, and it just started to get ugly. Lots of cliquish organizing, if ya know what I mean. I completed my term, because I made that commitment and wanted to do the right thing, but now that I have no ties, I'm going to spread my wings a little!
lol, yeah, that's another reason I'd like to find a strong women's group. Tired of the meat-marketing and newbies disguising a "sober hug" when they are really just trying to cop a feel.

Groups are just like a lot of any other volunteer community groups. I've done a lot of community volunteer work (historical preservation, etc) so when my group tried to get me to take a service position, my answer was "no thanks, I've spent my time in volunteer hell". LOL However, I did take literature chair which involves no interaction with anyone. LOL

Addiction comes in many flavours
Yes Sir.I like yourself am also in recovery.I 52,and may of developed my addictions as a result of my competitive nature in the sport of bodybuilding.as a young man i was #rd in the junior mr. canada in the heavyweight-division.in 1978.myself and my training buddies would train by day and womanize by nite. those were the days.Ha,ha,.I guess if you can stick a 3c.c.syringe in your medial detoid,a few drinks and a line or two has no big warning sign on it..unfortunatele, addiction is a process,by the time you get noticed, its well in the cronic stage.good Question I personnally know a lot of ex-bodybuilders who are active, and also some in recovery. all the best john in toronto.

There are f'ers like that in every group. Sorry we're not all like that!!!
That kind of behavior in an AA setting pisses me off to no end. I like stepping up to those people telling them to back off.....eye to eye or nose to nose if necessary.
Pet peeve of mine. Show respect or get out.
rant over.....stick with it and it WILL pay off

I know--not everyone is like that! I have a few close guy friends in the program; they are like the brothers I never had, but always wanted.
I said "newbies" but that's not really fair, either. It's on an individual basis, really, although it does happen more often with newbies because they're still kinda finding their way, to put it nicely, lol!

Checking in with the fellow sober folks. On day 33. Going strong. Some days are blah, some not. But very few temptations to go back to who I was for so many years.
Question though. Did ya'll catch colds easy when you first quit? I've had two since I quit. Am I maybe taxing my immune system too much by jumping straight back into training while my liver and kidneys etc. are trying to recover?Last edited by skarotum; 07-15-2011 at 06:24 AM.
