Last wednesday I was cleaning my ears out after showering with q-tips(standard protocol then) and before long my hearing in my left ear vanished. I scheduled an appointment to get it checked after the trying to let it fix over time method failed and eww...
Basically it was simply that I needed to get my ears cleaned so an assistant got a bowl of warm water, an oral syringe, some hydrogen peroxide, and shot it up my ear with the syringe and out came some ancient ear 'plugs/wax/q-tip remains/dust/etc' garbage about the size of a jelly bean(srs) that had been collecting over time for the course of my entire life possibly. It literally looked like black ear plug.
As I type this I think I'm typing too damn loud and I can all of a sudden hear a lot more clearly.
Go get your ****in' ears cleared you dirty ****s. Who knows what kind of ancient **** is lodged up in there.
cliffs:
-wax/q-tip remains build up over time in your ears
-all that ^^^ = bad hearing
-go to doctor to get it cleaned out or do it yourself

you can buy some **** at any store too, there's an oil and water based version
My doc told me to use that because I had some pain in my ear and they couldn't do the usual "pressurized" version because of that
Worked wonders, less than 5$ and that bottle is gonna last a while*** Misc Cigar Crew ***

I work in the lab at my Univ's hospital, the LVN's can do ear irrigations since they're pretty simple to do. When you use those q-tips, you should NEVER push deep into the ear canal, if you do you will cause the wax to become compacted together causing a loss of hearing--exactly what happened to the OP.
I have read several studies which suggest that ear wax is healthy for the normal functioning of the ear, think about it, did our ancestors use q-tips? Although I use them myself, just be careful not to dig for gold.Relson Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Went to doctor back two years ago, and she looked into my ears.
Asked if I wanted to have a rock load of ear wax removed. Because if not I can leave it there, wutever.
Me: "WTF?" I didn't understand why my own doctor WOULDN'T want to remove it.
Next thing you know she took some hook like contraption and took out this chunch of rock hard solidified wax. It was like a pinky clipping, and hurt a bit to take out.
Either way, good to go to a doctor from time to time.
