ps5 is outdated.
xbox series x is outdated.
pc is for sweaty nerds.
anyone who wants to play fortnite can do so on any old device.
switch 2 and steam deck 2 will sell like hotcakes. ps6 and xbox series y will sell poorly.
sony will go the way of sega.
microsoft will be ok cause theyre huge and just stop focusing on video games. at least the console side of things.

I might get a deck 2 tbh. Won't be my primary gaming device but it might come in clutch when I'm traveling etc.

I think of my current Steam Deck as more of a "use on vacation" console as opposed to a "use on the go" handheld. Like I find it to be a bit too big and the battery life to be a bit too poor for it to really be a go-to handheld for being on the go like using it on a long flight. Works great for just about everywhere else though, like relaxing somewhere or downtime when you're away from home. It's a lot more practical than a gaming laptop and serves a similar need.
Honestly the Steam Deck works so well at that I doubt I'd bother with buying another gaming laptop, by the time I'd maybe want a new one the Steam Deck 2 will probably be out.

Nintendo isn't a competitor to Xbox/PS and vice versa. They have different market niches and different types of games.
Steam deck/Steam deck 2 will be fine for playing on the go or on vacation. But most people are going to want to game on a couch with a big screen TV or at a desk with a nice monitor. There's definitely a niche for Steam deck and it will survive, but it's not pushing any console or PC out of the market.
PC will always be fine. It has the biggest selection of games, and it's the best option for modding.See Krackerjacked's sig

Ah yeah this makes sense. Hotel rooms, staying by family on vacation etc. Maybe at work if I have a free 20 mins I could knock out a level rather than browse the misc lol. With something so already big it's a shame they couldn't get more battery inside there. Or at least even sell a larger battery pack as an accessory, I'm sure it would sell well. Does the deck even have something like a low power profile, or do you just have to manually adjust settings in every game if you wanna squeeze out as much as possible?

Gaming, I hardly touch my HP Omen these days. Although, I've been bouncing between OLED Switch/Deck and I even dusted off my 3ds recently.
Overall, I think the OP is off -- I don't see handhelds taking down dedicated consoles, and I say this as someone who is a almost exclusively handheld gamer, but there will always be a place for a more powerful device meant to run on a 65-80+" television with you on the couch. Decks and Switches can make some of these games work, but at a pretty big hit, which you notice when it's not a 7" display...
I even think I'll probably get another gaming laptop for that reason once my current one really does get obsolete. I don't game with it often but I do some productivity with it and there might be a game or two I'd rather play on it than a handheld, if I got back into 4x games or some chit. All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

when the design/tech/cheaper price is there, a true hybrid will exist where console maker like nintendo will have a handheld that actually plugs into the dock that a console like apu with proper cooling and such. You have a 720/900p handheld, then a console/dock with external power that can handle 4k-ish graphics..
I know there are e-gpu external devices where you can actually plug your steam deck into for more power, but its clunky, its expensive, its not mainstream, and its not practical.*** Free Thinker Crew ***

You got that and another way, handheld it's capped at a lower wattage. Docked, when power doesn't matter, ramp it up fully. Both have ups and downs, at least from my not-knowing-much about hardware.
A dock that is a powerful eGPU... well, that's pricey and you're paying for a GPU in the handheld that isn't going to get used whenever it's docked. My suggestion, well you're paying for a more powerful GPU that is throttled down a lot (or always when handheld). Either way, you're paying for things you're not going to use all the time -- which is kind of how it has to be. You have to have power for docked/console mode that is not going to get used handheld. Also, an internal battery that isn't going to be a factor whenever it's docked.
I'm not the standard market here, so when I say, "Yeah I'd pay premium" it doesn't mean anything, so it's hard for me to grasp if either solution makes any sense from a financial standpoint for Sony, Nintendo or anyone dipping into this market. All truth passes through three stages. It's definitely a manual adjustment sort of thing, but even then the biggest difference maker is obviously going to be the type of games you play. Like the more advanced 3D games that push the hardware will obviously drain the battery rather quickly, while more basic indie sorta stuff will give you much better battery life. That said I have pretty much always gotten my more basic indie stuff on Switch as it's always stood out for that, only getting it on Steam Deck when it's not available there. I think if you're planning on being out long with your Steam Deck you're best off taking one of those portable battery banks with you and leaving it plugged into that.
Like I said, Steam Deck definitely isn't the best solution if you need good battery life or a smaller and more simple handheld. Same applies towards all of those advanced emulation handhelds that sorta look like a Steam Deck as well. We've definitely gotten to the point with handhelds where I'd say we have two or three different classes of them. I'd say it's the more portable ones with better battery life and lower performance, the bigger more powerful ones that work best when you aren't far from power outlets (I would call them alternatives to a gaming laptop), and I guess you could call those small low powered handhelds it's own niche as well, lots of tiny little emulation handhelds out there these days. It really comes down to your needs and how you plan to use them.

Yeah I have a hard time seeing handhelds replacing game consoles for a lot of people. I simply enjoy having home consoles for all my TV's, they're relatively cheap, simple, and easy to use with just a controller. I've always just used my laptop's own built in monitor for it, never bothering to hook it up to a TV really. If you want to use a PC on a TV I'd say you're always better off with a desktop.
