05-21-2024, 10:13 AM #2It maintains 30 frames per second very consistently, as I only noticed slight framerate dips in moments where the screen is flooded with hundreds of characters at once, but that doesn’t happen often so it never really bothered me.
first it was 30fps is still good, to, well it doesn't matter. just lol. this should not happen on a modern console. nintendo should really hand over their development to modders who actually know what theyre doing and who actually care.

This is one of my favorite games of all time. The fighting is very fun and the story is superb. This is 100x better than Super Mario RPG imo which is a great game.

The Paper Mario series is a Fisher Price version of SMRPG. I do see a lot of people say TTYD is as good or better than Seven Stars, but on graphics, music, characters, story, and gameplay alone, I don't think any Paper Mario could ever come close. The true RPG / Final Fantasy touch Square added elevated SMRPG to something wholly unique that could never be replicated. Every Mario RPG after it was a childish, watered down version. And the "paper" gimmick was just awful and nonsensical. Completely takes me out of the game when Mario turns into a paper airplane or slips through a crack. The fuk kinda writing / aesthetic choice is that? Same thing made Yoshi's Island a lesser game than it could've been. Top notch gameplay but all that kiddy pastel sh!t looks garbage compared to SMW.

The thousand year door is a superior game to Super Mario RPG in absolutely every way.
Just because you can’t get over the fact that you’re playing as paper characters to enjoy the game, doesn’t change that. The writing, the characters, the story, the gameplay. Everything is better done than Super Mario RPG. And I mean that’s also expected, the game came out 8 years after anyway. Plenty of time to improve on a Mario rpg
The majority of people agree TTYD is a superior game

how many paper mario games are there? it's very confusing which ones are a sequel or just a port / remake. Why can't they just number the sequels lol
I've only played the original one way back on the N64.--------------------- ϞϞ( ๑⚈ ․̫ ⚈๑). ---------------------

Paper Mario (n64)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GameCube)
Super Paper Mario (Wii) (more platformey)
Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3ds) (considered the worst)
Paper Mario: color Splash (Wii U) (considered second worst)
Paper Mario: Origami King (Switch) (great writing, beautiful, battle system was eh imo, battles were more like shape puzzles)
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Switch) (remake of GameCube original)-Engineering Crew
-Self Improvement Crew
-Third Position Crew
-Keith Woods Crew
-Consolecel Crew
-Dr. Edward Dutton Crew

I don't give a fuk about popular opinions. If you prefer a much more childish version of something, go for it. I prefer the much more refined SMRPG. It actually expanded the Mario universe, introduced great new characters, had a much better soundtrack, much better lore, felt like something you could enjoy at 8 years old or at 32 years old.
Paper Mario games are like a theater kid taking over Super Mario RPG and f@66ing it up a bunch. The soundtrack to Paper Mario is one of the worst soundtracks I've heard in my life. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a fun enough game, but have a real hard time replaying it.
The only edge I'd give to the Paper Mario games other than being released on much newer hardware was the badges for strategizing. But even that is just the same thing as clothing and accessories from SMRPG. It's all dumbed down for children, at the end of the day. The art aesthetic, the writing, the characters, the gameplay...all of it is dumbed down. You go from massive HPs like 5000 in SMRPG, attacks that can damage an enemy in the hundreds, to...1 point of damage! Oh, the big bad boss has 25 HP, look out!
Every aspect of the Paper Mario and M+L games are dumbed down to appeal to a younger audience, outside the hardware improvements. Square has something special they could never recreate later on without their input. Watched gameplay of Bowser's Inside Story and that game looks trash, too.
I'm not even saying TTYD is bad, but it is so much more childish and derivative. Oooh, a female boo with big boobs! A tranny wizard! 8 different koopas! GTFOH with that bullchit. Geno, Mallow, Frogfucious, Smithy and the Axem gang, having Bowser on your team to fight a bigger, apocalypse-level threat, even Peach getting her hands dirty...SMRPG mogs the fuark out of all the Paper Marios combined.

Paper Mario is objectively far more childish than Super Mario RPG. That is really my main gripe. I enjoyed Paper Mario 64 but I was extremely disappointed they ditched what Square x Nintendo had done, and that was turn Super Mario into an EPIC ADVENTURE with context beyond running left to right and jumping on enemies. Which game is more enjoyable is entirely subjective, but on every level Paper Mario as a franchise is a much more kid-friendly version of Super Mario RPG. The graphics, the music, the writing, the characters, the paper angle, "Twink the Star," a penguin murder mystery caper...it's all incredibly goofy. SMRPG had some aspects of goofiness to it but it wasn't steeped in goofy. There were Easter eggs like jumping on the wedding cake or the kiss mini-game, being forced to be a bellhop if you don't pay for the hotel, etc. But with Paper Mario it has the goofiness ramped up to 10 at all times.
