I am looking to purchase a trap bar and was wondering if anyone here can provide recommendations?
Would preferably like something that I can fit at least 6-7 plates/side and one with elevated and lower handles would be nice. Not looking to spend more than about $150-175 shipped.

Not sure how many plates this will hold, but it has raised handles and is the right price range.

(about halfway down the page).
Most people who deal with jesupgym are satisfied with their service and prices.
There are several on ebay for good prices right now as well.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member #14

That's the one I have and it's tuff. The collars are garbage though.
Also check out the rack and roll trap bar from Hampton. It has legs that make it easier to load.I think Elite sells them.Probably more expensive than the Jessup gym one.[]--[]Equipment Crew #33[]--[]

I have this one:
http://www.ironcompany.com/megahexba...llob-91hz.aspx
A little more than you wanted to spend but it works pretty well and has plenty of room for plates on the sleeves. It's a pretty heavy duty bar despite it's manufacturer. My only complaint would be that I wish it fit inside a power rack.
I'm sure you can find it cheaper than Iron Company but that's just the link I had saved for it.

Well, according to this post:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=127747833
Texas Strength Systems has their mega hex bar on sale for $125. The site says $215, but it also says you have to sign up for their newsletter for the savings, or something like that. 88 pounds. 1000 pound capacity. Both high and low handles. Not sure what shipping runs, but it wouldn't surprise me if you can get it delivered at the outside edge of your price range. I know nothing about it, but it sounds nice to me.

I had the Jesup.
It has high and flat handles, but I agree with the others who said that it may not hold as much weight as you are looking for."I am only one man, but I am a strong man."

Thank you for all of the replies.
I have ordered from Jessup before but have also used a similar bar and it is hard to fit more than 585 lbs on there (I think that I had to hold the 6th plate on the end with bands).
Went ahead and emailed Texas Strength Systems to see about their special and how much shipping will cost, and if that does not work out I will try to find a local dealer for the CAP bar and see if I can negotiate since they look similar.

Texas Strength Systems wrote back and confirmed the sale price at $125 but the shipping was quoted at around $75. I may just go with a pair of farmers walk handles since I can get them shipped for less and then get a piece of wood to make a 'frame'.

I don't know if you've seen the olympic mega hex bar for sale on Ebay before, but it's the one I have. It is more expensive than your target price at $238 shipped, but it's longer than most at 63". It has 13" sleeves (most others are 10") and is advertised as a 1500 lb. capacity bar (think I've seen the same bar with a listed capacity of 1000 or 1200 lbs elsewhere (if same bar, it's also more $ everywhere else I've seen it)). The bar weighs 80 lbs. No complaints here.
I don't have enough posts here to link to bar, so search "mega hex shrug" there.Last edited by stubbynr; 09-29-2010 at 11:41 AM.
