... of having a home gym setup like NDmike99's.
I have been flipping for about a year and a half now, and building up a small gym that will soon be finished (measly gym porn will eventually come, I promise). I have limited space at the moment and am being kept to a rack, flat bench, FID, some hex DB's and plates and bars. But...
I'm starting to have a problem selling some of my extra (to be flipped) stuff in hopes of one day taking over my basement or shop, if I can ever convince my wife and kids, lol. My area (Raleigh, NC) hasn't been great for flipping (especially finding quality stuff) but I've done well enough to cover my nut and make some extra money by buying fairly large lots. And, people may talk down about Weider and Marcy stuff, but it seems to resell well because they're the brands that most people see at the local Dick's, Sports Authority, Sears, etc..
My dilemma right now is that I have 1055 lbs. of oly weights (mostly CAP), three Oly bars (also CAP type), and an old skool bench and lat machine that are very heavy duty and they I really wish I had the room for the weights and machines, but I don't.
Has anyone else had the problem of reselling, when they see some of the large, beautiful gyms posted up here ?

What he said.^^
So long as you have the basics of a barbell, a rack, and a bench- you have all the gym you will ever need. The rest is just a bonus. Even if you don't have those, you can still get great results from a barbell and bodyweight exercises.
When I moved out from home I had to sell all my kit. All I has was a standard barbell in my garden stood on the grass. I made some of the best results I had ever got from stripping right down to basics. Have pride in what you have, and make the best of it.My training log:

Huh?
two dog, what's your issue? It is late spring. People aren't buying as much gym stuff as they do in Dec-Feb., or so. Is it price? What are you selling your gear for? Is it your ads? Most people put together horrendous ads. Big pics, full descriptions and details on makes and models. "Weight" ain't good enough. Pick up your marketing game and the sales will follow.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Selling wasn't the problem, wanting to sell is the problem, lol. i was wondering if anybody else found it difficult to sell stuff that they wanted to keep for themselves, I wish I could build a gym like Mike's
), but alas the wife and the space limit me.
Sorry if I portrayed anything else."Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do, than by the ones you did" Mark Twain

I have ups and downs selling too, and I've done just fine. Just be patient, follow Atty's advice on ad (I can't believe how terribly some people design their ads.....the narratives & pictures) and you'll get your stuff gone.
As far as wanting a gym like NDMike's, well....nothing wrong with having a goal! Personally, I couldn't have one like that because I have place space restrictions on my gym and I don't have any room for other pieces. There are a couple other things I'd like to have...but I'll be ok if I don't get them. What I have done though is slowly upgraded over time so that most of my pieces are commercial and purchased a lot of cool "smalls" to compliment the gym and my workouts. Its worked for me and I'm really happy with where its at.
Just decide what you can afford space wise, what you'd really like to have, and figure out a way to make the two meet. Good luck.
You posted this after I posted, I see your dilemma now.
I have definitely done this, but its usually due to space. I've sold a couple of pieces I'd either like to have back (tbar row) or that I'd just like to have period (leveraged leg machine and preacher curl). The tbar was just a decision to make space and I figured I could replicate it with my landmine. I can, but its not the same, so its the one machine I regret selling. The other machines I just didn't need so I got rid of them. I don't "regret" getting rid of them, I'd just have kept them if space wasn't an issue just to ad to the "cool" factor of the gym.
The good thing about keeping the space limited and forcing myself to get rid of some things is that I've freed up some funds to buy things I probably wouldn't have. The $440 rackable trap bar and the Elitefts cage come to mind as examples.Last edited by Keetman; 04-20-2012 at 07:26 PM.

I've regretted selling a lot of stuff. Only so much room in the cave though.
Some things I'd like to have back if I had more space...
Commercial cable cross
Quantum lying leg curl w/250 lb stack
Promaxima seated calf
Standing leg curl w/150 lb stack
Cybex upright weight station
Cybex trotter treadmill
TuffStuff 45 degree leg press
IronGrip 45 lb plates(a bunch of them)[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No 7

I got you now, twodog. I regret not what I have sold but what I could have bought, but didn't. Like 100 pound round heads at 50 cents a pound!

Just think of it this way, you probably made someone else the happiest guy in the world that day.
I too usually only regret the things I could have bought and did not. I could have bought that 5th deep dish 45 for $35. I could have bought a reverse hyper and GHR pretty cheap, but passed up the opportunity because my gym was pretty full, now I wish I had them.
