Great story, man. That is first-hand personal experience. I hope those guys kept their jobs, lol.
Resp Monday morning. C5s are nice
Agreed on the Grand Sport. They made some nice Grand Sports over the years and that was my favorite, but the C7 ZO6 is gorgeous.
Agreed on the insane whatever it is. Those rear meats are massive. So, to take that kind of horsepower and torque, might be necessary to keep it somewhat planted.

Since the C6 Z/ZR days, GM put massive rubber in the rear. 325 or 335. 335's came on my Z. But if ******t temps aren't above 70, you need to drive for like an hour to warm up the stock pilot super sports. Otherwise they spin 1st and 2nd, sometimes 3rd. Not really confidence inspiring. It's scary.
I have used R888's in 325, multiple types of street tires in 335 and nitto invo's in 345 (phucking garbage), none of them hook except for the R888's. They hook. Tire treadwear rating is low but having good traction is worth it. They're loud as well. And should never be driven in temps 40 or below.
Since i drive my car year round, i had to put back my street tires.
With the C8, since all the weight is in the rear now, it should be relatively easier to hook. Like most supercars.
And of course the DCT and torque management helps big time too.

lol that might be a familar sight once noobs get their C8. People that were never into cars. Or car people who were never corvette fans. Or people who just don't know how to drive a high performance car.
I hope the C8Z is a huge step up, money wise, over the stingray. That way not just anyone can get it.
I need to get mine already.

Prices for the C7 ZR1 will not go anywhere anytime soon. Remember the C7 ZR1 is a ONE YEAR production model. And the flagship model for the C7 lineup. It's going to be tough getting a good deal on that. But congrats if you do. Your best bet is to get a 2019 C7Z (which has all of the revisions). It has essentially all of the ZR1 components minus the blower, the light weight (stronger) wheels, and the ZR1 badge.
If a C7 is the car you want to keep for a long ass time, and don't care for price, then get the ZR1. Otherwise it's better to get the z06 for almost half the cost. (you can still get 2019's 1LZ leftovers for 70k).

I've seen brand new ZR1's go for as high as 160k inflated when they first came out. The prices now seem realistic.
Higher trim levels are a waste to me as i don't need heated/cool seats or any of the other "luxuries". The stage 1 (1LZ), (1ZR) are the fastest trims because they aren't heavily equipped with aero. IF you don't track the car, getting all the aero slows you down, unless you like just looking good, while not going as fast as you could.
You can find some 2019 1LZ z06's for 70k if you shop at the big corvette lots. And there's already dudes on the forum trading in those 19's for the C8's. So you basically get a brand new 2019 that already took the deprecation hit from the first owner.
Yes so far the only C8 is the base, and then the Z51 package stingray. The Z06 model usually follows the stingray/base debut after 1 year, so i hope it's no different this time around. Because i want to place my order on one already. Watching the C8R race car today and i'm loving the sounds it makes. It's different and doesn't really sound like a V8, but since, IMHO, the C8 is a supercar now, it should make supercar sounds lol

GM said end of february we'll start seeing the C8's at actual dealers.
I feel like we'll see about the same speed of depreciation for the C8 as what we saw with the C7 stingray.
How much do C8's go for?? lol I don't even know. Been concentrating on the C8 Z06. Are they like 70k? So figure in the year 2023 it'll be like 50'ish?
But usually what GM does is that have gigantic discounts towards the end of the year at the big name corvette lots like kerbeck, criswell etc. That's how i got my C7Z, it was 18% off MSRP.
I should wait for a 2nd or 3rd year C8Z because i'm sure there's bugs that need to be worked out and i can probably get another year end discount but phuck that, i need to upgrade my car now lol

I would consider getting a 2020 Z51 and driving it for 2-3 years until the Z06s are solid (no bugs) and even starting to see some discounts then trade it in. Historically first model year Z06s have a few issues so you end up paying the most for what is usually the worst model year to own. Buying a first model year Z06 only to trade it for a later model year would probably cost more than going from a Z51 to Z06.

There haven't been many 1st year C6Z issues and not many 1st year C7Z issues as well. I have seen people posting on the forum a lot of the 2018 and 2019 Z issues which is 4th and 5th year of the Z for the C7, problems i don't have in my car.
The only advantages in getting later years are the revisions, maybe a MAG ride update, added features in the cluster etc.
There are no power differences, or suspension geometry differences etc.
I can't see myself going from a Z car to a stingray, even though the C8 stingray is very impressive and wipes the floor with a C7 stingray/grandsport.
I like having new cars often so even if i get the first year C8Z, if the car is that good, i can always trade (or if i lease, get into a new lease on a later year C8Z), and just keep the car hopefully longer than i usually do as i can't foresee making a Z06 much better if there is a C9 way later in the future.

C8 Chevy Corvette Z06 Will Have 600-Plus HP and a Ferrari-Like Shriek
The upcoming Chevy Corvette Z06 will be the first of several upcoming ultra-high-performÂance variants of the C8 Corvette. We expect it to go on sale in early 2021 as a 2022 model, starting at about $85,000. It's a return to the stripped-down-for-action, high-revving, track-worthy Vette embodied by the 505-hp 7.0-liter V-8-powered C6 Z06 of 2006 through 2013. This time, the Z06 will use a naturally aspirated DOHC 32-valve 5.5-liter V-8. Plus, it has a flat-plane crank, just like a Ferrari V-8. It should rev to between 8500 and 9000 rpm, spit out 600-plus horsepower, and shriek like something from Ferrari. It feeds an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transaxle driving the rear wheels. This is no mere speculation; a detuned version of this engine is already powering the C8.R race car.....

Well the wheels in that render look like regular GM cup wheels, from the C6 and C7.
There's a "leaked" photo of supposed C8 z06 wheels on the net, the carbon fiber ones but i doubt that will be fitted to the z06. But never know if high revving NA, lightweight is what they're going after. I suspect a lot of thieves will be eyeing those wheels.
It does look realistic comparing to the other renderings. This looks legit. Perhaps not those wheels, because they look like 22's on that car lol. And maybe not dropped like that. But idk, it could be.
The body looks about right, looks beefier, as a z06 should be.
Ahhhh i phucking can't wait to get mine already.

Game changer for sure. If people are already saying the base C8 feels like McLarens they've driven, the Z06/ZR1s are going to make a lot of people feel stupid for paying hundreds of thousands more for less performance, the same sound, and although subjective, similar looks. Can't wait to see these on the street.

The video feedback on the base model is proof of how far the corvette has come. I know youtuber's make their content for more hits so they have to get a C8 in there but others who are making reviews on the car alone, because that's their job show how amazing the car is. In base form. Like it's only the bottom of the lineup model lol. It's not even a z06, nor a zora or whatever the top of the line C8 will be.
I mean guys who can afford a mclaren or ferrari's aren't going to be jealous of people getting the C8 z06 lol, but they sure are going to feel some sort of way when these cars are running rings around them in a straight line or at the track.
This is GM's supercar, or america's supercar. The ford GT is amazing for sure. But at like 500k for a 6cyl lol, hard to swallow that pill.
Many many people are going to experience a supercar for under 100k. Even if GM prices out the z06 at 100k starting, still a bargain. Whatever the price is, i'm getting one so it doesn't matter.

It barely looks different, a little lipstick. it’s not changing any opinions. I think most would be lucky to notice much of a difference, it is what it is.
Probably the same feel as when a Miata blows their doors off. You can always build a faster car, they could have 1200hp+ corvettes for less if they wanted. I think gm did a great job thoughLast edited by blazenbb; 04-22-2020 at 07:09 AM.

Which 911? There's like a million of them. Used turbo s, definitely a tough choice. But in the end i'd still choose the C8Z, because it's going to be an all new platform, plus it'll have a V8.
You just can't beat that, even though the flat 6 is incredible. And the PDK is world class.
Plus you'll absolutely get more looks in the C8Z, if it'll look like in that car and driver link. That chit looks amazing.

Not really.
A miata has never been in the same category as a corvette in terms of performance, EVER.
A corvette has always been a contender with porsche, ferrari etc, for a while now. They are always competing. On the street, and on the race track.
Miata doesn't belong anywhere near these cars. A modified miata same thing. You can make it have 2000hp, most projects done like that are done half ass. With stock brakes etc.
And even if you do it properly, it's still a miata in the end.

Like i said when talking about performance, no lol. A miata has never been in competition with a corvette ever. Not on the track, not on the street, never.
Corvettes have always been in competition with ferrari. They race on the track competitively and a C7Z and ZR1 can beat most ferrari's. Stock vs stock.
A miata is at the bottom of the barrel. You should have used a different car to make your argument lol
