What to eat post cardio (HIIT)

People say do cardio on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning.

    I do HIIT.

just want to know what in terms of macros i should be eating immed. after cardio. I do cardio am / weights pm.

i'm only asking about post cardio, the rest of the day im fine.

    Im cutting.

what (macros) and why? Or is doing HIIT on empty stomach even a bad idea?

    Thanks for ur answers

I do cardio every morning as well.... Boxing, Kettlebells, jump rope for about 30-40 mins. I just follow it up with a protein shake (2 scoops) and then eat breakfast about 30 mins later. Usually consists of some of the following: eggs, fruit, chicken/beef, pb, toast or oats.

When I used to do HIIT I would put some chocolate whey in a blender with a banana, oats, and some honey. I think carbs after HIIT are pretty helpful for recovery, especially since you're doing it in the morning and won't want to be tired all day.

Personally I wouldn't. If its strictly cardio routines then I would just go Whey or EAA/BCAAs after until your next meal. Especially since we are working out twice a day then I would save the High GI stuff for after weight sessions.

Well, since HIIT is INTENSE by definition, you are going to risk muscle catabolism. Will it happen for sure? Who knows, but why risk it, when the difference in fat burned during fasted as opposed HIIT is almost the same?

Here is a chart showing fasted subjects:

Mean absolute (A) and relative (B) substrate oxidation rates in trained and untrained subjects in fasted nutritional state at 22, 40, 59, and 75% O2 peak. P < 0.05 for both * and #.

Compare that against this chart showing fed subjects

Mean absolute (A) and relative (B) substrate oxidation rates in trained and untrained subjects in fed nutritional state at 22, 40, 59, and 75% O2 peak. CHO, carbohydrate. P < 0.05 for both * and #.

As you can see from the above charts comparing fasted to fed cardio at different intensity levels, when you are doing HIIT, it looks pretty much the same regarding fat burned whether you are fed or fasted, so why risk muscle catabolism?

Are you saying why do HIIT? vs LISS (fasted)

or are you saying why are you not eating? (then do ur HIIT)

you tell me what is the best method to burn fat w/ cardio in the am, (HIIT LISS fasted fed)

    Thanks

I've tried all of them and honestly I'm getting the most lean by doing totally empty stomach ...i guess u would call my workouts HIIT (boxing, kettlebells, jump rope) then followed by a protein shake, followed 30 mins later with breakfast. I just find it hard to chug a bunch of liquid or food down before going to beat myself up in the morning.

if it's working for ya, then great! Keep it up.

My point is not that HIIT is better or worse than LISS. I feel they both have benefits and can be both worked into a routine. My point has to do with performing any high intensity exercise (HIIT falls in that category) in an overnight fasted state. The risk of muscle catabolism is going to be right around the corner. It may not happen to you, and even if it does, you just may not realize it. But you know what they say about dancing with the Devil...

any meal after hiit, just make sure your macros are in check. the need to "recover" after a hiit session is not nearly what it is after lifting.
