People are buying out freezers where I live. Only one person has died - I originally thought it was two but it wasn't. The virus doesn't exist where I live and shop shelves are empty and we have to soon force 24/7 trading so people can buy basic products.
My friends elderly neighbors still can't buy an inhaler. 1 person has only died from this virus. Can't buy an inhaler. Even I am looking out and checking out chemists to see if I can get one for her, but my rage levels go up. Just watch what happens if I catch someone with an arm full of inhalers.
The government needs to set up a simple database for purchasers, temporary. Your ID and purchase is kept. If you go back and try buy 20, they'll go: "Sorry you bought plenty fuk off".
Shameful human behavior, imagine if we had a real disaster; let's say no electricity and running water due to some atmospheric cataclysm for 2 weeks or no way of long-distance communication. I think nearly every first world country would crumble.
Animals are more civil during a time of crisis.

i think it would protect as well. i mean not 100% protection but i think it would reduce the amount of air flow, and airborne particles you intake, like a filter, but for sure it's not a definite "won't protect you" there's no way. there's so many variables. it's like washing hands without soap for 2 minutes without drying, would take out 20% bacteria off your hands. washing hands without soap for 2 minutes and drying properly would take out 40% bacteria. and then washing hands with soap for 2 minutes and drying properly would take out 90% of bacteria.
should be a normal thing at this time to use.
got some news last night idk if it's recent info our health official in canada said someone with mild symptoms, after about 10 days, the virus is inactive, but still in the body, but essentially "dead."Last edited by 2RDEYE; 03-20-2020 at 09:15 AM.

Yup . . . that's where the virus can realy go apechit and in a hurry.
One of my good friends at work lives in NYC . . . right up the street from MSG. I was on a video conf with her yesterday and she took her laptop out on the balcony and panned the camera around. There were very few people and cars out--like eerily few. She said all the main traffic and crowd noise is gone and all she hears is the ambulances going all over the place.*MFC Elder Statesmen Cabinet Crew*

White house press conference on. They are touting shutting down the borders with Canada and Mexico ,which both have lower case density. Not that it is a bad thing to do but who is getting protected from whom exactly?

I am not sure what is the benefit at this point other than getting people to interact less overall. The virus is in, I don't see the point in obsessing about illegal immigrants in this context. They moved on to talk about securing resources for the healthcare system, which is makes much more sense IMHO.

Medical experts are saying masks are not a guarantee and you have to use them properly. They are useful, that's why the medical experts use them and tell healthcare professionals to use them
Medical experts are not, as you imply, saying masks do nothing. They never have, if you actually read what they write.
PLease go read the details of what verified 'medical experts' have published regarding mask use before speaking more on the topic.

They have said the typical person won't use it right and thus its stupid to have them when medical workers need it.
Which is also what the media has said.
Also that its mainly effective time prevent spread of you are sick not to keep you from getting sick. Both media and medical people have said that

Lets not rehash the mask debate. These are the facts.
Surgical MASKS have no seal and are good at preventing you from spreading your germs to others. They have a tangential benefit of stopping you from touching your mouth and stopping droplets (someone sneezing at you) landing on your mouth. This same effect can be achieved with a simple bandanna.
RESPIRATORS are the NIOSH N95 rated masks, often with a valve that allows easy exhale. These often look like masks, but they require a proper seal on the face, and if they are sealed, they are effective at filtering out airborne virus particles. They need to be complimented with proper eye protection as well to be effective. If they have an exhale valve, they do nothing to stop your aerosol and some droplets from exiting your mask.
My girlfriend and I have still been doing jogs and walks. Just like you said, extreme care to maintain a good 20 ft from anyone around us. I'd be lying if I said I don't hold my breath and then exhale when I'm near them though.
Edit: Not exhale at them, just a stupid "positive pressure don't inhale" mentality.Last edited by Witrebel; 03-20-2020 at 10:08 AM.

seems to be a western thing, asian governments are handing them out and asia is handling the virus better than us being so close to the origin of it

i think why medical experts have to say it on the media is because there will most definitely be a shortage
this
you have medical professionals working with the public, being around sick people, using PPE, most only using surgical masks, but apparently the general public "it's not effective." problem is the supplyLast edited by 2RDEYE; 03-20-2020 at 11:15 AM.

Since it's relevant to the use of masks . . . if you happen to have them. This is specifically for the 3M N95 8511 model. But you'll see why not knowing how to wear one could be problematic in getting a proper seal, especially for the top portion near/around the nose.
