Meets based on wilks, or pretty much any formula are silly in that aspect.

People can say what they want about these wilks meets, but when there is $40,000 to best lifter, it sure does get some attention. And that is not a bad thing. Most of the lifters who thought they had a chance of winning came out to compete also.
It would have been nice to spend $1000 of the $200,000 payout on a stable platform and glasses for left judge though. Most of my lifting gets posted to Instagram - https://instagram.com/fayerjw/

Yeah money meets are really important, but I much prefer the proraw model. Just have a few, more competitive classes and pay the winners.

I guess the weight classes that don't have as much depth would get screwed until they can build it up. Or could maybe break up the current model into 3-4 super classes like they do for the World Games. Formulas shouldn't be as skewed when comparing only 48 and 52 kg girls vs comparing 48 and 148 kg girls.

Kind of a disappointing meet all together. A lot of lifters didn't seem to be digging the kabuki bars either. Idk how jp price still almost hit 1003 after doing the crip walk with it on his back. Healthier lighter Brandon Allen is definitely somebody to watch. lol at some of the comments saying Larry wheels can't hang with Eric lilliebridge and he's stupid to think he could take his record lol lol lol I say

Interesting. Basically the new deadlier bar. I wonder if it was the nickel coating making it slicker. From what I've read people like the knurling on the standard power bar. I can't imagine the knurling being the issue.

I think also on Foster Parnell's IG he made a comment about the bar "issue". He mentioned how there were many dropped deadlifts, knurling was aggressive, and possibly a thicker bar with less bend to it than the texas DL bar. Not a very good advertisement for Kabuki bars at this meet lol.

Pulling on a good dl bar generally gives many a PR at a meeting after training on stiffer power bars. There's s minority that it doesn't so that doesn't seem to jive.
Edit: and to add its typically those that grip and rip that the whip tends to not help. Hook grippers don't tend to do that and should benefit pulling the slack out.Last edited by Jason2459; 05-14-2018 at 09:28 PM.

Obviously I don't know what the issue was with the deadlift bar, but it didn't necessarily look like grip was a problem. A couple people, however, who slipped with mixed grip did say the bar tore their hands up pretty badly. So maybe the knurling was too sharp? A couple lifters did switch to mixed after an attempt with hook. Ben Pollack and Yury Belkin are the ones I remember.
Also, one deadlift broke. Anyone know exactly what happened there? Looks like Duffin pushed these bars out a little early. Most of my lifting gets posted to Instagram - https://instagram.com/fayerjw/

I agree. I don't think poor judging like this is typical though. There will always be one person who complains. I agree it shouldn't be that hard to find a good judge.
I think they put Steve Denison in the chair, and I think he is almost equally as bad. Seems to hand out whites to everyone. Most of my lifting gets posted to Instagram - https://instagram.com/fayerjw/

Agree 100%. I used to be very violent off the ground when I pulled mixed grip and I would say I got 25 more pounds and a cleaner pull from a power bar. A deadlift bar would whip after my intianial rip and I'd spend all my energy trying to manage the whip and bounce. From the like 2 days I messed around with sumo and a double over grip I bet money I could get a decent amount from a deadlift bar the very first time pulling with one sumo and hook.
As for the kabuki bars. With the just ridiculous price of all of the kabuki equipment those bars should be the greatest thing ever made, and make me sushi when I want, and wipe my ass after. The rogue Ohio deadlift and power bar are all I'm looking at.A total@A body weight

Idk about you guys but if I'm paying someone to coach me (and all of these so called experts charge a lot) and I get a IG story saying I was at a meet I'll get you program etc to you when I get back I'd be pissed.
Isn't the Ohio deadlift bar almost exactly the same and the Texas, and only like 275?A total@A body weight
