I don't get it, why do people just not work as a waitress/waiter if this is such a big issue? I mean, surely it works itself out in the long run.

If they did away with tipping altogether (which I think they should) and the employer had to make up the difference the customer would pay with the rising cost of food to take care of the rising cost of payroll.
Either way as a customer you’re paying the same amount. Unless you’re a big tipper I guess then you’ll be paying less.
I don’t really think it’s that much of an issue. I know a girl who is in her early 40s and still works as a cocktail waitress. She told me in a weekend she’ll make $700.Last edited by TheRougarou646; 06-06-2018 at 05:59 AM.

Sometimes a person has to take what they can get.
There were 6.698 million job vacancies in the US in April 2018. (source 1).
There were 6.3 million unemployed people in April 2018 (source 2), and as at July 2017, the latest date for which figures are offered, 12.5% of the 160.32 million civilian labour force or 20.4 million people were underemployed, that is they were doing paid work but wanted more hours (source 3,source 4).
So for 6.698 million vacancies there were 26.7 million people who wanted work, or more work. It's true that not all vacancies are advertised, but it's also true, at least for professional jobs, that some jobs are advertised which really are being given to someone already, they're just going through the motions because HR and state law require it. But we can say that about 20 million people miss out.
Sometimes a person has to take what they can get. You'll understand when you move out from mum and dad's place.

I never tip, deal with it. Will never tip either, the whole tipping things is retarded as phuck.
They're doing their job and its their bosses job to pay them not mine, no one tips me at my job either.
If they want more money well, learn something better to do and get employed in a better field not cry and bitch about it.Sig line can't be a novel

How are any of those issues different from any other job? As for the weekends issue specifically, like many other jobs do, some type of shift diffetential could be offered for working chittier shifts. None of this is complicated. Also, don't forget how the U.S. is the oddball of the world for their tipping culture, so the idea of not having that culture isn't some novel concept.

she sounds like absolute trash
"Powerlifters shout at bodybuilders because bodybuilding produces mountains of muscle tissue with no functional purpose. Strongman competitors look down on powerlifters because there's more to strength than a one-rep max in three lifts performed with a minuscule range of motion. Olympic lifters, if you can find them, get to feel smug because every 4 years, you can turn on the TV at 3 AM and see them compete for gold. And everyone hates on CrossFit."

I've been known to tip 100%+ all the way down to 0%. Depends on the waiter/waitress. If you suck and treat me like sht then fuk off. If you're nice and I'm tipsy then I'm going to hook you up.

I'm not one of those people advocating for $15 an hour minimum wage, I think you misunderstood. The employer is getting away with paying his employees 2 and hour or whatever because american tipping culture. He, like all other business owners, should be forced to pay his employees minimum wage. In the states its 7.25. I consider that livable in most places.
The bish is dumb, the owner is greedy. For every 5 dollar tip thats 5 he doesn't have to pay out of his pocket. The customers are essentially paying his employees.

Another low wage pleb that doesn't get it. $3 isn't acceptable to anyone, and that is the point. The norm, whether you like it or not, is hourly wage to cover taxes essentially, then tips is the actual income.
Now you have to think about the quality of service you want. The nicer the restaurant you go to, the higher the level of service you expect. If you think that servers are useless and low skill, then you apparently haven't experienced the various levels of quality in the service industry. A waiter at Olive Garden is not going to deliver the same service as a waiter at a $100/person fine dining place. And that person is also not going to deliver the same service as a 3 Michelin star place. You get what you pay for. I'd rather more skilled/attentive service people continue to move up and be compensated appropriately to deliver that above and beyond service.
Perhaps you should stick to Burger King.535 deadlift.

A tip is not mandatory, it's that simple. Whether you think it's ethically right or wrong, it is NOT mandatory, and therefore you should not expect a 20% tip at all times.
Why should people be forced to tip, just so restaurants can pay less to their employees?
You claimed it's a poverty mindset when you negged me for my opinion (just lol), but the fact is, the only place this entitled tipping culture really exists is USA; surely that should tell you something about the ridiculous logic involved? It's a restaurants responsibility to pay their employees responsibly, not the customers. THE ISSUE IS WITH THE EMPLOYERS.
That's not to say i don't tip, i often do, but people should be able to choose whether or not to tip without being demonised. Again; its the employers responsibility to pay their staff, not the customers.Last edited by TappingTheZen; 06-06-2018 at 07:27 AM.
