WHAT A PHYSIQUE.
Arms, chest, traps, the whole schebang. Holy hell. Cut maybe 5-8 pounds and you'd look like a carved statue.
Fellow vegetarian checking in here, and subbed. Also running 5/3/1, obviously my starting point is nothing compared to yours, but hopefully I can learn a thing or two from your log. You're exactly what I want to be.

Really kind of you man, made me smile. Vegetarian power! Totally doable to make good gains without meat, I dunno why everyone thinks it's so difficult.
I'm off 5/3/1 for the time being, but I did it for about a year and went from: bench 265 to 310, squat 305x9 to 390x6 (in wraps, now I use sleeves which is why I'm weaker), overhead press 140x9 to like 215x1 or something absurd. I didn't gain a pound intentionally. Point being, it does work. I really recommend doing a few heavy singles or even doubles after your top set in order to accumulate more volume. I'd also recommend skipping the deload always, unless your body is really beat up. Good luck man. I'll check out your log.
So today....
Killah does bodybuilding.
As you can tell from my past few workouts, for some reason, I'm being drawn back toward training "like a bodybuilder." Well, not exactly - but I do have an interest in dropping the weight on nearly everything and focusing on getting in a whole ****load of volume. My knees, ass, back and shoulders need a break. Everything needs a break, honestly.
I also want to stop deadlifting sumo for the most part and go to conventional, but I have minor scoliosis and so not rounding is very difficult for me. Going to need to start VERY light (like, 315, maybe a little more) and keep form quite strict. This is why my deadlift is constantly fuking me up, and why it really hasn't progressed much in the past...well, forever. I am committed to this, but I just need to take it easy and not sacrifice form for weight, particularly on this lift.
ANYWAY. I also found out I suck at incline benching now since I've only done flat movements for a long while, so I want to build that back up.
I will also throw a vid up at the end of this training week.

so yesterday managed to pull belles 405 for 2 doubles and then 2 triples, so happy about that. Dead strength is climbing back up; ass felt fine. Then I did front squats and since I felt strong I ditched volume and did some heavier stuff. Front squatted up to 295 for a single which flew up, and then missed 315 due to not being able to hold the bar up.

A great workout. I underestimated how hard hitting 10's for multiple sets would be.
I appear to also have lost some weight. Weighed 191 yesterday, but feeling good. My ass actually allowed me to pull conventional today, and for snatch grip deads, I managed to get decently heavy.
I'll put a vid up in the next few days.

Yesterday I hit some front squats, worked up to 275x5 and 295x2, but I really think I'm going to have to scale back on doing this lift heavy, in favor of more volume. This is because I feel myself turning the lift into more of an upper back movement since most of my efforts go towards just holding the damn bar and attempting to keep my elbows up. Gonna start doing a simple 5x5 instead, probably using 245 next week.
Today I did most of my bench workout and am going back tonight to finish up.

Gonna start peaking dat bench to hit a new max (or I'd settle for 330ish again now that I'm lighter).

Scaling things back a bit. I'm feeling far more devoted to my spiritual/consciousness cultivation than the gym right now, and my knees and ass hurt. Hoping on a 3 day a week strength program for the time being to just be in and out and add weight to the bar each time. Deads were not good tonight due to my belt popping off midway through my first set (which was supposed to be my only set of 5+). This threw me off so I stopped after 2. Then it happened again! Went beltless for my third set and didn't have the will power by then. Will use 415 again next week and get it for 5.
Pretty happy with OHP sets tonight, feeling strong there.
Microloading has been very useful to me in the past for OHP and bench and so I'm pleased to reintroduce it.
- Overhead Press: 162.5 x5, 162.5 x5, 162.5 x10, 185 x1, 185 x2
- Deadlift: 415 x2, 415 x2, 415 x2, 415 x1, 385 x2, 365 x5, 315 x3 (paused deficit at the end for a lil extra work)
That was all. Saturday I'll be hitting bench, squats, and some accessory work.Bench Press - 225x18 // 275x8 // 330x1

Killer workouts as always. Been following but have been sidelined between work and picking up the flu a while ago. Workouts are getting me amped to lift heavy again soon.
Journal scene does kind of ebb and flow. Always found the more active I was on the journal scene the more overall activity resulted. Keep up great work. Shake off that bench day. Crush it next time

Thanks boys. Actually gonna be doing 4 days/week instead of 3 since 3 seems a little light. One of the squat/bench days will probably become a paused squat/CGBP day when progression gets too hard on 2x/week.
Today:
-Bench - 262.5 x5, x5, x7, and 290 x2 Much better than last time
-Squat - 360 x5, x5, x5 This felt terrible and I'm not quite sure why. They can't all be winners.
-Incline DB Press - 110s x4, 100s x7, 90s x9
-Skullcrushers -110 x15, 110 x25
-Behind the Back Deadlift (unplanned, unbelted, felt like deadlifting) - 405 x3, 425 x2, 455 x1, 405 x3
I've always been freaky good at BTB deadlifts, they actually feel far more "normal" and "right" to me than normal deadlifts ever have and my strength on the two has always been pretty much the same without ever seriously training BTB. Sort of want to make it a regular for a bit, would be cool to hit 500.Last edited by KrazyEyezKillah; 03-29-2016 at 09:59 PM.

Sorry I'm late to the game, but just had to say there is a TON of good work in this journal.
I'm not Buddhist, nor a vegetarian, but one of the best meals I've ever had was a vegan meal at a Buddhist monastery on Lantau island in Hong Kong. I currently live in Japan and have done a fair amount of travel here and in SE Asia and on of my favorite things to do is check out the different monasteries. So beautiful and with such a rich history.

Sweet jesus that squat is immense. Do you have a vid? Not questioning it's validity, just would love to see it. Great work my man. 220 lbs is also big as fuk. I'm down to 191ish right now and that seems to be where I'm comfortable. Lost some strength on squat but it's coming back.
Thanks my friend, your travels sound really cool. I'd love to go check out Asia at some point; there may be an opportunity down the road for me to spend some time in the little Buddhist country of Bhutan which would be awesome. Would love to just see Tibet, such a holy land with so, so many great practitioners.
I've been a bit of a lazy logger lately but hey, that's life.
Tonight I did just squats and deadlifts. Squats were actually quite deep now that I'm watching the vids, got well under parallel for all. My flexibility on the low bar squat seems to be better than most peoples. Funny because I am a terribly not flexible person. Deadlifts were not so good but I drove 9 hours today so I was happy enough with just the squatting.
Will hit bench tomorrow, deadlifts and maybe box squats on Thursday, OHP and CGBP on Friday.
-Squat: 365 x5, 365 x5, 365 x5
-Deadlift: 385 x2, 405 x2, 365 x7, 315 x10
Just not too much in the tank today after that drive. Oh well, training always seems to ebb and flow, especially with deadlifting..I'll go from hardly being able to get 405 off the ground one week to hitting 50 lbs more the next.Bench Press - 225x18 // 275x8 // 330x1

That is sickening, 515 didn't even look that hard, and it looks to be high bar too which is wicked. I've hardly ever heard of Smolov Jr being run for squat but I might have to give it a try after this peak. My best ever was also 445, but that was in knee wraps..In just the sleeves I think it was like 420x2 or something.
Speaking of peaking, that's what's happening now. In around 8 weeks from now, hoping to beat my old bests of 330 bench, 225 OHP (lofty goal since I weighed a lot more, but at least want to match that), over 425 squat in sleeves (may also max in wraps a week after that) and 465 deadlift. Realistically I'm hoping for a 340 bench, 225+ OHP, 435 squat in sleeves and 455 in wraps, and a FUKING 5 PLATE DEADLIFT, COME ON ALREADY.
Following some Greg Nuckol's intermediate peaking advice since it's logical to me and doesn't require a whole lot of thought process or crazy programming, which is good for me since I don't want to spend a lot of time outside of the gym thinking about the gym.
The process begins:
-Bench: 245x11, 225x14, 205x12
-Incline Bench (swiss bar): 185x9, 175x10, 165x11
-Rope Pushdowns: 150x15, 160x12, 170x10
-Calves
On Thursday, deadlifts, beginning with 350. Would like to get 12 or so. I'm beginning the peak with 75%, 70%, and 65% on all the lifts and just slapping more weight on each time.Bench Press - 225x18 // 275x8 // 330x1
