It's a pretty standard posing technique at the higher levels. I'm not sure most bodybuilders are exaggerated with it like he is though.

You can try doing it yourself and feel the tension permeating up your inner thigh. When you are ripped, you can really see the difference in the mirror.

I wouldn't say small, but a tad narrow from the front. From the side and back they're huge.

Phil's quads are one of his lagging bodyparts, i believe he has mentioned this as well.

Phil has structural limitations, despite being well developed all around.

thats a good way to put it... narrow. Great hams, no doubt, but his quads aren't very shapely... which is why i would say that Ben gives him some good competition on a front lat spread, especially considering Ben's width

thats a good way to put it... narrow. Great hams, no doubt, but his quads aren't very shapely... which is why i would say that Ben gives him some good competition on a front lat spread, especially considering Ben's width

You're forgetting about Pak's not very good v-taper, certainly hurts him in this pose. Phil and Kai (specially Kai) have much better ones

I really don't think his lack of taper is too bad in the FLS. Especially with the size of his quads and width of his shoulders, I think he creates a pretty good X. He definitely could look better with a little more lat development, especially the lower lats, but overall I think it is a strong pose for him.

yeah... pretty much what lvisaa said... I would also add that his waist is a bit wide, but overall, due to his "mass monster" frame, its one of his stronger poses and the front lat spread is probably one of phil's weaker ones (not that it doesn't compete with some of the best of the best)

I really don't think his lack of taper is too bad in the FLS. Especially with the size of his quads and width of his shoulders, I think he creates a pretty good X. He definitely could look better with a little more lat development, especially the lower lats, but overall I think it is a strong pose for him.

The thing is his lats do not flow with his midsection because has a long torso, look at Kai for example, I think Ben could improve that by putting his hands higher but that will make his actual V tapper worse.

tbh i think phil takes him in that pose. phil is thicker in the chest, arms, lats and remains more balanced while ben needs to bring up those aspects.

ben has a bigger frame and is wider, but so is 90% of the rest of the olympia lineup, doesnt mean much if they dont fill their frames like phil or kai

Way I see it phils legs aren't leagues behind paks whereas paks arms and chest are far behind phils. Paks lats look good in the pose no better or worse than phils and whilst paks delts look big and awesome phils don't look oiled. It's a good pose for pak his waist isn't even a problem due to hand placement.

I agree, but the point is that Ben is competitive with the top 2 bodybuilders in the world in some of the front poses. Everyone is hating on him for being a horrible BB'er, but I don't think that is reality.

I'm saying if someone uses width as a reason someone competes with Phil in a pose, then the whole lineup could be considered to compete with him in that pose. Which obviously isn't true.

Things have a way of coming into focus when the bodybuilders are actually side by side. BPak is in a really good position as a up and comping, rising star in the bodybuilding world.

Ben is a very hard worker and a smart guy. I think he is determined enough to improve his weaknesses and just needs more time to do so. He's meticulousness with everything he does and you just see that in how he outlines his training program and theories HERE.
