can someone explain how a fighter is physically unable to continue after a glancing knee, when they could for like a decade in PRIDE and early UFC?

How the **** was that a glancing knee? It landed right on the temple. And its completely different taking an unexpected knee to the head and knowing you are about to get kneed in the head.
