Fam, in your opinion what is the sweet spot for:
Fairly easy water cut to 198's on a 24hr weigh-in
and
Body weight as high as possible for training
When I say fairly easy, I mean no IV fluids or prescription diuretics

6-8 lbs should never be a problem. So bw of 205-ish while training. I would routinely cut 15 lbs for fight weigh ins, and never used diuretics or IV's to rehydrate. Occasionally if I had to cut more than that I'd spend a couple hours in an Epson salt bath. It's a low impact way to get the water off.

Was talking to a 198er today (totals 1500+) about his cut during weigh ins, said he was 207 as of Tuesday and made it easily without any special tricks outside of the normal water cut. Not sure about regular training weight though.

Thanks for the replies...I was thinking 205ish and actually just hit that weight for the past two mornings, down from about 215. Meet is on Sept 13th, if I have the day of my life, I'm shooting for 1500, but I at least wanna hit an SPF elite total

What's a good way to improve glute and hip strength for lockout on deads? I always get stuck above my knees and use my back to finish the lift when the weight is challenging.

I don't even know what this means. Don't you extend your hips and finish the lift with your knees locked, hips locked and shoulders back? If yes, then doesn't that mean you used your glutes and hips to lock out properly? Unless you are doing what this girl at the beginning is doing...

Yes, but to get into that position I don't push my glutes and hips into the bar, I pull the bar back using my back and my lower body just sort of follows. I don't activate them at lockout when the weight is heavy at all, that's for sure.
This video explains it pretty well
