Some of you guys have lost it. First of all, why do any of you care about the stock market so much? It's just one avenue of investing. There are plenty of investment opportunities outside of public equities if you really are looking to invest. Secondly, the stock market is not reflective of the market economy and how much money goes into your pockets. Would you rather your wages continually go up or have the stock market creep up a couple more points? The two are not typically complementary. Cheap labor drives profits. Profits drive stock prices.
Many of you are also overestimating the influence of quant funds. Sure, they can cause a flash crash but the sell off does continue for days and days. Everyone "knew" a correction was coming, but I've been hearing people saying that for years now.

I'm actually not doing anything, other than I may do my IRA contribution this week or next (which I'd already planned to do). Not worried about 401k loss. Though abruptly losing 5% is not an initially good feeling, it actually is good since I can buy in lower with future contributions. I have a good while before I'll be tapping that account.

Not sure which video but it's dead most days. Most jobs are gone to the HFTs, rest will probably leave soon as well. Depressing in all honesty.
If CNBC wasn't doing their thing and if the open/close wasn't held on the floor, it would probably not even be shown on TV anymore.“We have these — these talking heads who have gotten the vaccine and are telling other people not to get the vaccine,” Gov. Spencer Cox (R) said.

so you're assuming that 100% of the 90% of the population in the US are invested in equities?

I don’t think a single one stands out for me, there are a bunch I’ve read over the years and honestly I’ve read so many they all kinda merge together in my head.
So I’ll prob accidentally leave the best one out...
I’m normally get to know the person before I recommend one, and normally is one of my younger managers.
What’s good for you might not be what’s good for me.
There is value in reading several and then fit your life into what is best for you.
The key is you have to have a plan. whatever the plan is, and having a budget is a non-negotiable- it’s a must.
And then discipline/habit.
So one I’ll recommend, not directly related to personal finance - The power of habit by Charles Duhigg
https://www.amazon.com/Power-Habit-W.../dp/081298160X
I think Dave Ramsay’s Total money makeover is a good one for many people like above posters said.
Personal finance for dummies actually isn’t bad.

The Behavior Gap: Simple Ways to Stop Doing Dumb Things with Money
https://www.amazon.com/Behavior-Gap-.../dp/1591844649
There are many more, and I will say each of these have some things I slightly disagree with or don’t follow.
In all honestly I think reading some biographies about great people you admire has more value.“A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both.”
