The difference here is that Sony decided to make it a requirement months later, too late for people to get a refund, and now forcing people into a position where they'd have to stop playing a game they like unless they sign up with Sony.

If it was known from the start, someone could simply not purchase, or refund Helldivers and move on, instead of feeling cornered into registering with Sony or not playing a video game they paid for.
