I walk mine daily as well around people, seems to help him. At the house its another story though, he wants everyone to fuk off. Even worse if my daughter is close. If he even thinks a stranger is going near her he goes off.

Mirin. I've had a Shih Tsu that was actually a great dog. There are actually some toy breeds I'd like to have. The only missing piece is protection when you're not home. That's mostly what I got this pupper for. Ain't nobody breaking into the house to look for the gun safe when I pull out of the driveway.

Yep, that's exactly how they are supposed to be. How old is yours? I've heard so many stories where a CO will let a babysitter close to the kid while the parents are around... then the parents leave, and the dog will NOT let the sitter near the kid. Lol

We're doing Diamond Natural food. It's reviewed really well by actual vets and the price isn't too bad. Ingredient profile definitely tops what most pet stores carry for options.

We almost did raw, but it's just too much time and expense. Plus, our trainer comes from IPO and is a big proponent of using dry food as a training treat since you can dish it out so readily.

You can train it to be chill. I have a high energy working mutt and she's a huge handful, but a firm hand is necessary. I'd say don't give up on your doggo. Caucasian shepherds are beautiful, majestic animals.

Seriously consider working with a dog behaviourist in order to curb its protective pack instincts.

Funny story mine went after my brother when he was visiting and went to pick up my daughter. Gf and I were in the kitchen and out of site, brother heard my daughter fuss and got off the couch to check her (he hasnt seen her much) and the dog tore after him, he had to jump on the coffee table. Lessoned learned for us.

Mine is about 17 weeks now. He is a great dog overall definitely different than any other breed ive ever owned. After he figured things out he seems to have bonded very closely with us. Everynight he walks the house walks up to the baby bassinet appears to check on her then goes and lays down in the hallway.

I researched rare breeds for several years and nearly went with a Central Asian Shepherd. I anticipated a career change into the fire service and wanted a dog to have at the house while I was gone for 24 hours at a time.

Not sure about some of the comments ITT but the breed is excellent with families and as you have said they are not really high energy just high protective drive. Even as a puppy when there isnt anything concerning him he sort of just chills. As a LSG breed they have to be able to relax with the livestock and not run around all day unless prompted by something. They also have a reputation of being good with kids specifically. They just absolutely do not tolerate strangers especially while on their property.

Friend of mine had one growing up when I lived overseas which is where I first learned of the breed.

They are not the loose cannons people think they are. OP you need to be out walking him in public and should have been from an early age. Wont negate his protective drive but will help socialize him and teach him whats a problem and whats not.

Well no chit. All dogs are cool if you take the time to properly train them and socialize. But all dogs also have the potential to be a loose cannon if they aren't treated properly and correctly. Even your precious golden lab has that potential to fuk **** up. In the end they are still animals. You really think OP is gonna take the time to properly do that? He has a highly specialized dog living in a small apartment and it's already wrecking sh*t doing what it wants. It's already too late, op should have established boundaries much sooner

You're absolutely right about the kid thing. I so specifically asked every breeder about their approach to kids. Every breeder said the same thing. If a CO has even ever nipped a child, they haven't heard about it. It's almost always a situation where an innocent adult gets bit because the dog's protection drive for the child is so high.

Yep. We also feed ours raw/cooked. Frozen spinach and broccoli, chicken hearts or a mix of breast and liver, rolled oats, and an egg per day. Split into boxes and freeze. Our dog is small though
