Well to be honest both consoles are ugly AF, the disc one is just worse.
I dunno what happened to all the "leaks" Sony was going to be selling side panels to replace. Maybe they are waiting to officially release that news but if not available at launch I may just paint mine. Controller still ugly AF in white though and I wouldn't feel comfortable painting that unless the shells came off easily.

This generation is shaping up to be an interesting battle. As a PS4 user I was all-in on PS5, but Xbox is finally making a more interesting proposition with GamePass, etc. Enough to get my attention. It really comes down to what, exactly, will be on GamePass (and how long it will stay) vs. the draw of Sony exclusives. Sony and MS are going in different directions this gen. My take on it right now is:
MS = Netflix. They are going for the subscription model, giving you a lot of content for a fixed price. If you consume that content, it's a good deal. The issue I see is that this model values quantity. It will be in MS's interest to find a lot of cheap, flashy stuff and pump it into GamePass and trust that users will be satisfied with quickly moving on to the next Fortnite, Fall Guys, Angry Candy Crush Birds and keep that subscription money flowing.
Sony = HBO. They are sticking (for now) to the traditional model and seemingly focusing on quality of exclusives to be the big draw for users. The issue here is whether paying $70 for every game is going to start looking pricey compared to the buffet over at GamePass. However, you know there is a strong track record of quality games, and once you buy them you don't have to worry they will disappear off GamePass.
I have a confirmed pre-order for both a PS5 and Series X just to have the option, but will cancel one system or the other before launch.☠ By reading this post, you have agreed to my negative reputation terms of service.

For now it will definitely be Sony's generation to lose but once MS greatly expands their library (like they are doing with Bethesda for example) and the streaming tech kicks off, Sony will be left in the dust if they don't adapt somehow. At some point, cloud gaming and fast access to a rich library with quality games will outweigh the brand recognition and exclusives that Sony presents. Right now, what MS is doing is still on alpha stage but next generation will be the turning point I feel.

For the most part they aren't even trying to get the same customer anymore, although some people do fall in the middle. MS will get casuals and Sony will get gamers.
If Sony wants to solidify this position I think they need to do a better job with hardware and hardware peripherals. They can be the premium player in the market with their superior software, but they should have a hardware option to match. I gotta believe if a PS5Pro wasn't in the works already, it was once Series X specs were revealed.
I don't see streaming ever appealing to people who really like videogames as input lag will always hamper the experience. But it will be very appealing for fat little Johnny and his poor family to download a GamePass app to their TV and just subscribe to the service.

Thats a solid comparison. MS = quantity, Sony = quality. If you just need something to watch/play, get Netflix/Xbox. If you are fine with waiting for big critically acclaimed hits, get HBO/Sony. Microsoft may be changing that though with the recent acquisition. I will be getting an xbox for fable and elder scrolls (assuming its exclusive).
I agree with mgftp as well. The customers they are trying to attract are almost completely different groups at this point.
I really don’t buy the whole streaming thing as the future. How is the Stadia doing? Psnow was absolute dogchit until they started letting you download games. My internet isn’t even bad where I’m at and I could barely play anything on it.Last edited by ohiostate124; 10-01-2020 at 08:02 AM.

I think Sony is safe for the next year or two, but after that the picture becomes less clear. If the subscription or cloud gaming type stuff takes off, then Sony doesn't have the money or infrastructure to keep up. If enough casuals flow to that model, and if MS produces just enough high-profile AAA games from purchases like Bethesda to have some "gamer" credibility, Sony's business case for high-budget tentpole exclusives is going to be on shakier ground.
A couple of things are working in Sony's favor: first, so far MS has shown that even when they throw money at things they don't necessarily get any results. And this Bethesda / Zenimax thing might just wind up producing Fallout 76 or Anthem type trash. Second, Sony has a big player base from this generation and people aren't going to want to give up what they own in that ecosystem to jump ship. So if a change does occur, it should be gradual enough for Sony to produce some sort of response.☠ By reading this post, you have agreed to my negative reputation terms of service.

I think what will eventually work will be some sort of hybrid model supported by technology improvements. For instance "streaming" a game involves temporarily downloading a base portion of the game that controls activities where ping/lag are important, and then it streams the maps/terrain/ etc. when you load into a new area. Or something like that. But it requires a different approach, not just putting a game as currently developed on a remote server.
