Thanks! We are fixing to have beans and corn galore!!
Thanks RB. been working really hard. need more foam rolling time.
Carrots must be pressure canned at 10# pressure for 30 min for quarts. I diced them, but you could slice.
This is what they turned out looking like.
Thanks Woody! This is the first time I have grown garlic. Some varieties did better than others. So have some idea what to plant next year!!Spoon Barbell Club

RB- no it is just carrots and water. I have herb pots out front and add seasoning when reheating to serve. Gives me more variety at the end of the day. No salt or brining. But that is why you have to pressure can them.
Joel- love juiced carrots!! Hubs was just saying we need to get a juicer!!Spoon Barbell Club

Oh, interesting with the carrots! Stephen's dad used to put them in a big container full of clay and kept them buried out in the cellar. They'd stay fresh all year around!!!

i need to learn about storage techniques. was thinking about how much would go to waste when i start growing. i dont even know what 10# pressure for canning really means, but i plan on learning it.
i hope you do join a team. think about how much you could learn and then contribute. if you have the opportunity, take advantage!!
new place, lots of veggies, and such great progress on your lifts. a huge congrats for all round good living.

Will have to ,ook into one!
I know you guys are behind on the growing season, but when all my stuff has given up in Aug, you guys will be kicking it! Thanks for coming by BSG!
Wish we could have a root cellar. The water table is too high here. Would make things lots easier.
Power rack FTW!!
Love it when spring flowers snap their magic! And an early garden sorta makes up for Aug and Sept here.
Oh Hammie likes carrots as well! Not just broccoli? Hubs is feeling generous since I let him but some implements for his Baby, I mean tractor! Hammie, why are benches so darn expensive?
Learning to can isn't hard, just something different. I was scared of the pressure canner for a long time. Like can blow the darn thing up. But the internet has tons of info. If you have any questions Geek would be more than happy to help.
And thanks on the good living. I read this book abot 4 yrs ago that made me look at food totally differently. What I bought and who I gave my money to. For instance. We had ribs last weekend. The kids loved them. They were like can we have these again. I sadi well, you get them 2-3 times a yr cause there are only so many ribs per pig and we only butcher so many pigs per yr. Hubs was like, well you can buy them from the store.Um, no. Not an option. Do you know how they raise pigs for the store. No, will not give them my money.
Power racks. Have so far been looking at Rogue and elitefts.

both of those power racks are awesome. I have been inside each of them. I would eventually go with the one that is more customizable seeing as how you never know what you might find yourself needing and doing in a few months or next year.

Wow, JJ! I love your crop jackpot! I've never had luck growing carrots though, and I love them! Not sure why they give me such trouble ... I can grow most everything else. Maybe it's the weather here or something. Do you can your onions and garlic too or just store them? How big is your garden?
Those power racks look awesome! Looking forward to hearing which one you choose!Caring about what people think of you is useless. Most people don't even know what they think of themselves.

Here you go, JJ. Split jerk tutorial.
More pointers on the split jerk:
a) The dip is exactly the same as power jerk.
b) The ‘punch roof’ cue is exactly the same as power jerk.
c) The only difference is the feet movement.
d) This is the fastest of all jerks. The power jerk only requires a few inches of movement from hip to shoulder width. The split jerk requires you to move your feet, measured in feet and not inches.
e) This is also the most stable position.Last edited by NorwichGrad; 06-03-2013 at 07:13 AM.

Right!!
I as leaning toward the EliteFTS one. But still pondering. Glad to know someone has used them and thought they were cool! And yes, I want it to be changeable to a certain degree.
Swooshie, the garden is huge. Hubs measured out 100'x100'
Not the best picture, but I took it this am. I will be canning a lot this summer. That is the first time we have had real luck with carrots. They are so fine, hubs got pelleted seeds this time and I think that helped. But I think the timing has to be right and real fine soil for them to sprout. The onions and garlic we will let cure, put lime on them and hope for the best. This is the first time I have had a place to cure them right. We shall see!!
Okay, hubs left to go talk to some extension agent. So we will try this this afternoon or evening. But it makes perfect sense. Can I use a dowel rod or should I bring my bar back. I am thinking it shouldn't matter. Today I will work on the snatch and clean and jerk, then try this this afternoon or evening and see how it goes. Thanks Joel!! Great vid, very clear about what to do.Spoon Barbell Club

ALso, if you can vid some C&J along with snatch from the knees. I would go as heavy as possible, but only as long as form allows you to do so..This above all..

Will do tonight. I have snatch and C&J to critique. And there is lots of room for improvement.
Hey Boomer, no reason to be jealous. But I am having so much fun!!
Oly went well today. There are still things to work on. When I do these workouts, I don't always make the best notes of reps. At the light weight I normally do triples , then go to doubles, then singles. So I will just list the weight. The vids are long, so if you don't want to watch I understand. But I think they show the progression of weigh and highlight what needs to be worked on. I love the shoes btw. LOVE THEM!!
Hang Snatch
I think I did better with the elbow snap, but I can't figure out the leaning back photo Joel. I can't figure out when you lean back. is it just totally different from the clean?

Great work, JJ!
You are basically there. Just minor tweaks in a few areas.
On the snatch, you want to finish the pull. You are cutting your 2nd pull a bit short. If you review your empty bar drills the other day, where you are in the launch point and then BAM!, that was the exact hip extension you want. Also, you want to explode when your shoulders are behind the bar, and not above or forward of the bar. But your speed under the bar is excellent. If you can keep up with this fast 3rd pull in both cleans and snatches, and you manage to explode with your shoulders behind the bar in the 2nd pull, you can expect some major PRs. Also, your elbow snap is much better. Snapping the elbows in position makes you go down fast, and you did!
Play this game the next time:
1st rep below the knee
2nd rep above the knee
3rd rep 2 inches below the hips
Notice how I explode with my shoulders behind the bar. The purpose of this drill is to eliminate the premature explosion that is common among new lifters and to give confidence that “yes, you can snatch heavy weights when the bar is right at the hips, and not the thighs.”
On the cleans, you basically powered the bar and rode them down. Remember that you want to accelerate the bar high enough so you can sneak under the bar fast. High enough in the full cleans is usually just an inch above the belly button. On the power jerk you’re still push pressing it. Pop hips and retract into the athletic position by sinking hips back down. But go ahead and start doing split jerk next time. And keep your elbows high..
Here is from Saturday’s session:
Notice how my shoulders are behind the bar at the initiation of the 2nd pull. Also notice how I am accelerating the bar high enough, and how I jump down to rack it.
On the band drill, you have the right idea. Just play with the bands by twisting them around the DBs a little so that they provide a bit of tension. You want to feel the tension when the bar is one inch above the belly button. Feeling this tension will make you want to go down fast. But this is more or less the correct setup, just make a few tweaks to feel it.
So in a nutshell, just be a bit more patient in the first pull. Bring bar to launch point, ensure shoulders are behind the bar, then BAM!!
Keep it up..This above all..
To thine ownself be true..
And it must follow, as the night the day..

Glad you love the shoes! And yes, I did watch the vids several times with eagle eyes.
This is what I mean by leanback. I’m doing a full snatch, but the mechanics on the hang snatch is very much identical.
As you can see, again, I have my shoulders behind the bar on the initiation of the second pull. As you can also see, I am extending my hips, knees, and ankles, and I am getting on the balls of my feet and layback as I pop my hips. But don’t think “jump” cuz there is no jumping. Think of ‘flicking’ your hips to send the bar upward.
Stay on your heels all the way to 2nd pull position, and when you pop your hips switch the weight from your heels and think of tapping your toes by extending your hips, knees and ankles. This is how you flick the bar.
The concept is identical with the cleans.
What I'm showing you now is actually the next phase of learning the violent hip extension. I did not talk about any of these in the beginning because I did not want to overload you with information. But now that you know the importance of staying on heels, I am showing you how to generate more power..This above all..

Oh I like that drill. You are right about the launch. I was too low. So really the problem is timing and power generation.
On the cleans, you basically powered the bar and rode them down. Remember that you want to accelerate the bar high enough so you can sneak under the bar fast. High enough in the full cleans is usually just an inch above the belly button. On the power jerk you’re still push pressing it. Keep it up..
Man that is just awesome. And I know you watch the vids I just don't want everyone to think they have to, cause those were long!! You are also right about the push press instead of the jerk. When watching I realized I never slammed those hips to get the bar up. Will work on that next time.
Joel is an excellent teacher. Remember Boom, you are warming up with my max on the big lifts.
Thanks Lori, they are fun to do.
I know they are soo stable. hey, do your's have these super long shoe laces? I swear I think the Velcro is there so you can keep your laces under wraps.
