    Week 29 - Day 1

    As much as I was not feeling it, I got my butt to the gym after work. I was tired all day. Not sleepy, tired. Very strange.

    Squats - I was not in a cage today was was hesitant to do anymore than I did. They didn't move the greatest either. My legs were sore from either the massage on Saturday or the moving boxes upstairs yesterday. Or both.

    65 lbs - 5
    85 lbs - 1
    105 lbs - 1
    105 lbs - 1
    105 lbs - 1

    DB Bench Press - Not much to say about these.

    25 lbs - 9
    25 lbs - 9
    25 lbs - 9

    Trap Bar Deadlift - Heavier than I would have liked them to feel.

    165 lbs - 5
    165 lbs - 5
    165 lbs - 5

    Sled Push - Nearly impossible with the humidity. It literally just wouldn't move at points. Another girl said that happens when it's really humid. Good to know.

    45 lbs - 80 ft
    45 lbs - 80 lbs

    At least the fan was back in the gym today! I'm also drank BCAA's/electrolytes during the workout trying to stay hydrated. I also drink them when I'm home all day. Don't know if it's helping but it sure is tasty!

    Since the meet is getting closer, I don't plan on doing many accessories from here on out. I might do the same squat workout all three days also just to get some more squat volume in.

    If I didn't have the meet coming up, I probably would have skipped The way my lifts are going, not sure how well the meet is going to go though. Eh. We'll see.

    Some times it's very difficult to get in the right lane after work and head to the gym. Once I make that turn, there's no going back though. LOL

    ~~~~~~
    Gah. Going to the gym only once last week really messed with my mood. I'm noticeable more depressed. I'd normally lift today, but I work 16 hours, so that's obviously not happening. I do plan on going tomorrow though. I guess I'm back to "must work out or else be depressed." I see more cardio in my future to help with this. Whoopee!
    That sucks but interesting how working out can help out with that. Makes me wonder if that is the reason why so many people are on anti-depressants these days is because they are a lot less active. Then again, there weren't as many anti-depressants available. But I know I get into a funk when I don't get to go to the gym. One thing if my body wants a rest day and I don't go. But when my body is fine and I just can't make it...I notice it.
    Like last week...even though Italy was beautiful and work was going well...I could tell that I was over-emotional because of not having the time to workout. Not a good time to make any rational decisions.
    I am the same way if I can't workout for a couple days. And yes cardio will help with that too. Yep, those who never do anything physical probably feel like crap mentally all the time. Squat, run, and feel like a victorious muscle beast.
    I wonder if it's an endorphins thing, or if we need to give our bodies more productive things to do. I was definitely miserable last December when I was working so much I was rarely training at all. Hope you get some time freed up in the next few days to hit the gym!
    It wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't some sort of correlation between lack of exercise and mental health issues/health issues in general. We're made to move and for the most part, we don't.
    Yes. I definitely feel much better psychologically when I work out. Obviously I'm healthier physically as well.
    I have to wonder if we had never been consistent, if it would still be this way. Like, does our bodies need exercise because it was used to it, or is it more basic than that?
    ~~~~~~

    After a 16 hour shift so apologies for any typos I didn't catch. Anyway, I was diagnosed with depression when I was 14 and have been on and off antidepressants ever since. I've been off of them for a few years now. Back in undergrad/after graduation I was severely depressed, to the point of being suicidal.

    I remember being in therapy and telling her that the only reason I didn't kill myself was that I believed I deserved to suffer, and death was too good for me. If I thought I didn't deserve to suffer, I was worried I would actually kill myself. She said something so simple, yet, at the time so profound. She said, "What if you thought you deserved to be happy?" Completely blew me mind. That thought, as simple and normal as it is, had never crossed my mind.

    I really think exercise was my saving grace more so than the antidepressants. So, more exercise it will be it seems.

    On the bright side, our depressed teenager generation of emos have Blink 182 making music again. Not sure if they feel guilty for contributing to the emo generation or they're doubling back down on their efforts to finish us off with existential drama and feels.

    No need to think about killing yourself when those 16 hour shifts are doing it for you! Yay optimism!

    I hear them every now and then on Sirius XM. Wondered what happened to them.

    Nah. No serious thoughts about killing myself in years. I don't consider the fleeting thoughts to actually be a problem. It's not like it was years ago, when I was actually trying to plan, worried about failing, etc. Things have definitely improved.

    And yes, work is exhausting! I can't wait until I do my last 16 hour shift!! It was going to be next week, but with another $500+ vet bill today, I might pick one up the week after also. I haven't decided yet. Probably not though. I would if i wasn't going to my new job so soon.

    Did something new happen with the kitty? Or did the bill just come today?

    It's crazy how much vets/medical costs are.

    Usually, yes. There have been days where I didn't because of timing. But I almost always have something to eat before lifting. I can usually tell when I don't.

    It's crazy how much vets/medical costs are.

    Toooo hot to workout/train. You got the basics in.
    Not new per se, I had to take two of them to their regular vet for a follow up. Close to $1,200 on cats in the past week. Owie!

    Not positive lifting will happen today. I have the guy coming back over to finish the deep cleaning and by the time he finishes, it will probably be the hottest part of the day. No way do I want to lift when they're calling for it to be 97 with a heat index of 107. We'll just have to see.

    Edit: The gym is not happening. I'll try to get to the air conditioned gym tomorrow after work. Not sure how heavy I'll be able to deadlift though.

    Week 29 - Day 3

    I wasn't sure I was going to make it to the gym today. I ate lunch super late at work but decided to just go and do what I could. I did go to one of the air conditioned gyms I belong to. It's more deadlift friendly than the other air conditioned gym I belong to. Still not perfect though.

    Deadlift - So, they have mats you have to deadlift off. Problem being, they have 5, not 6. Some other people were using three of them so I only had two to work with. That meant i was lifting from about an inch positive. Considering that the first inch or so is my weak spot, not sure how good of an idea it was. Weights moved fine though.

    135 lbs - 5
    155 lbs - 5
    185 lbs - 1
    185 lbs - 1
    185 lbs - 1
    185 lbs - 1
    185 lbs - 1
    185 lbs - 1
    185 lbs - 1
    185 lbs - 1
    185 lbs - 1

    Leg Press - The one and only squat rack was in use, so I did leg press instead.

    210 lbs - 8
    210 lbs - 8
    210 lbs - 8

    AND, that was it Their incline bench was also in use. If I wasn't so close to the meet, I would have played around on some of their plate loaded machines. I'll do that after the meet though.

    Oh man, I hope everybody's all fixed up soon. You guys gotta see this Australian show on Netflix - The Supervet. This vet builds bionic joints/legs/feet for pets who have been in accidents, it's really cool. That show has made me cry over cats that are not even my cat though, wtf.

    Added the show to my favorite list in Netflix

    Well, Drusus will never be "fixed up." He has IBD and it's difficult to know when it's getting worse and he needs to go to the vet for more injections. Poor boy. He is 15 years old though.

    Week 30 - Day 1

    I think I need to do deadlifts first even if it's not deadlift focus day. I had to skip them today as I had too much to drink during the workout. Not drinking during the workout has because not optional.

    Squats - These still are not feeling well. Seriously considering just doing push/pull for my upcoming meet. I didn't even try my heavier weight as I knew it wouldn't end well.

    45 lbs - 5
    65 lbs - 3
    85 lbs - 1
    95 lbs - 1
    95 lbs - 1
    95 lbs - 1
    95 lbs - 1
    95 lbs - 1
    95 lbs - 1

    DB Bench Press - These felt heavy also. Not sure what was going on today.

    25 lbs - 8
    25 lbs - 8
    25 lbs - 8

    And, that was it. Never doing a summer meet again! (Until I forget how miserable the training is and sign up for Raw Dawg again )

    Way to power through on a day you weren't feeling it. It is hot AF everywhere, not the most comfortable way to workout.

    Sorry to hear about Drusus (I really like that name btw.) He must be a wise old fella at 15. The oldest cat I've had lived to 13.

    My two "young" cats are 13. One of them, Penn, is acting off. I don't really have another $500 to take him to the Pet ER. I'm hoping he perks up. If not, I guess it's Pet ER tomorrow if I can't get in my usual vet.

    Too much to drink during workout, you sound Irish ha. J/k.

    Maybe all the anxiety over your pets is effecting your strength adversely? Maybe BubsnBean could help? I know she's a vet, she probably doesn't want to be asked those things on this website, but I mean, maybe asking wouldn't hurt.

    Oh man, maybe he's acting weird because the other cat is sick? I really appreciate that my vet clinic can get you in the same day if you have an urgent issue. They have 3 doctors there so they will even fit you in with one of the docs who you usually don't see if need be. Seems like most places aren't like that and can take a while. Hell even if I have to go to a people doctor because I chopped off a finger slicing carrots they're like oh, well we can see you in 2 weeks.

    I think I'm part Irish. Not the drinking part though LOL

    It could be so many things messing with my strength. The heat, dehydration, kitty stress.

    I'm sure he'll need blood work. I may be hypersensitive. That's why I'm not rushing to the vet tonight. I'll see how he is in the morning. I mean, he's moving around fine, he just seems weak and almost depressed. He's lost weight. He is an old guy, so health issues are to be expected.

    He seems kind of depressed. Sort of moping around. I pick him up and he moves okay. Just not acting his normal "pet me, pet me!" self.

    My vet can get you in same day for an "emergency" fee. I don't remember how much it is. If he's still like this in the morning, I'll call the vet when they open at 6:30 and see when they could get me in. I'm supposed to meet a coworker for movies and lunch tomorrow. That may not happen.

    Hope all the kitties are feeling better! Why do pets always group their illnesses and vet visits together???

    Great job on the workouts! Way to push through with the heat as well! It's funny, we've had some days at my gym recently where the temperature outside isn't all that high, but the humidity is really high and it's sweltering inside the gym. Bah humbug.

    Took the cat I was worried about to the vet. All blood work was fine except for low protein. They sent some blood off to the lab to check his thyroid and heart. I'll get those results today. They gave him an antibiotic and a short acting steroid injection. I don't see much different this morning. It might be a GI issue, but an ultrasound is over $400. I've spent almost $1,500 on cats this month and just not sure I have another $400+.

    Even on the really hot days, when I've gone during the day, the gym wasn't too bad. Humid, but still cooler than outside. It was only ~80 yesterday and it's supposed to be the same today. VERY happy about that!

    Does this mean you'll be feeding your little lions some raw protein products, like beef or tuna?

    Not much is quite as satisfying as spoiling your pets. When they're eating steak and you're eating steak... Feelsgoodman.

    Aww man, not great news there's something going on with the other cat but at least they didn't find anything way worse. One time had a very sick cat who would only eat Spaghetteos with ham mixed in heated up, srs, do what you gotta do. Vet said that's fine, feed him whatever he'll have at that point just to get him eating.

    Aw, poor kitties. Hopefully all that was wrong was just the low protein!

    We used to boil ground beef for the dog when she was sick. Sometimes it seemed like the dog was eating better than everyone else lol.

    Not much is quite as satisfying as spoiling your pets. When they're eating steak and you're eating steak... Feelsgoodman.
    He won't eat tuna either. I've already tried it.

    I did see him drinking water yesterday, so that's good. The blood work they sent out to the lab showed elevated cardiac enzymes as well as elevated antibodies, so there's a lot of inflammation going on and some heart disease also. They just don't know how bad the heart disease is.

    It's not just low protein (see above). Poor guy.

    He seems to be perking up some. At least he was last night. My cat sitter wants me to take him to his vet for a second opinion. I had his medical records faxed to the other vet and they called saying there is nothing else they would do, to give it a couple more days and see if the medications they gave him start to work.

    Hope your cat turns around for the better. Sucks when they are going thru this kind of stuff and they can't tell us what is wrong or what they want...especially when it comes to eating.
