meeting is tentatively scheduled for march 12th...but if you anticipate them easing up on teh mark to market stuff then you probably want to start looking to get into positions soon. the market could potentially explode on the 13th as a result of this but good chance things will start to creep up between now and then in anticipation of that.

I'm thinking the opposite will happen, lol...the financials will rocket up until the meeting, and then creep along! It seems to be the way it's worked for the last year when it comes to anticipation - the anticipation always seems to do more than the news.

TRUST ME... buy the rumor sell the news regarding any changes in mark to fantasy... I mean market...
Talk about taking out the transparency! No one will know how/what values are for the banks and which ones are on the brink. Buy the rumor, sell the news on that one my friends.Faith makes all things possible. Love makes all things easy.

Oh ha. I don't follow college basketball, but UM has gone down the tubes lately across the board, not just basketball
lol nah, playing it either way right now is pure speculation. I'm just saying I intend to stay out of the way altogether rather than risk getting burned playing something that volatile. Good luck.

definitely agree on the 'buy the rumor' part here as a big part of the move will be before the announcement...then make sure you have your stops in place when the news comes out cause it might go up even further (assuming it goes up of course) but i think its temporary cause people will realize that just because someone says 'pretend these losses aren't here' doesn't mean we don't already know about them lol.
i could also see this causing a 2nd bounce in april/may when the 1st quarter earnings come out. these markdowns were include in the 4Q numbers and factored into the 1Q projections, if you take those out suddenly everyone's numbers go up and people start beating expectations by a decent amount. obviously a lot of that will be 'priced in' but i think the market is dying for some good news for a change and if a bunch of companies 'beat' earnings that could increase confidence and bring some bulls out of hiding
now as a disclaimer i'm not talking about this kicking off a bull cycle or pushing us to crazy numbers again, i'm more thinking of it as 'potentially' a catalyst to lift us out of the panic/danger zone of sub-7000...maybe lift us back into the 7500-8k range to calm some of the fears slightly
