Quick question for those who buy dumbbells...
For weights over 100lb, do you guys always prefer prostyle w/ pancake plates or hex dumbbells?Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

SK - I currently use Rubber Hex with the contoured handles up to 75's. Which I really love by the way. But I think at that point they start to get very clunky. I am looking to add 80's - 120's and for those denominations I am only considering pro-style. A 100 lb Hex DB is very large. I couldn't imaging going over 100 in anything but Pro.
In a perfect world I probably would have my Rubber Hexes up to 50 and then 55 - 120 would be Pro-style. The only reason mine go up to 75 currently is because I already had the 2.5's - 50's and I happened to come across the exact match of 55 - 75 last year which I couldn't pass up.
Here was the original 2.5's - 50's:
And then their friends showed up:

Yes, size matters.
Should of added a disclaimer that I don't actually buy dumbbells. I've welded up a few sets of pro-styles that I change around every few years at this point (rarely use dumbbells). But if I were to buy, I would still get the same style, if money wasn't the deciding factor.▪█──█▪ Equipment Crew #61 ▪█──█▪

my dream dumbbells are the 5-150 iron grip urethane with 30mm handles.
grip is great, they are quiet to use, and look pretty good too. they make them to 175 now if you order a custom size.
oh well one day. ironmasters for now lol

Man, those Iron Grip urethane DBs are purdy!
So what is y'alls general "rules" for selling on Craigslist? Do you give the first 'legit' guy that contacts you the first shot until that doesn't work out? Or will you take a second guy's offer if the first guy is a slow-ish to repond? Just curious. I tend to hold the item for the first contact until he bails or we can't meet at the right price..Equipment Crew #68, Ivanko Crew #47, Rogue Barbell Club #7, Mech6 Crew #30

Watsons Dumbbells are really nice but very expensive. I got a quote for 10lb to 100lb in 10lb increments (I gave them the equivalent KG numbers) and it was 4500 pounds + 500 pounds for a rack. That didn't include shipping yet.
I agree though, if money was not a factor I'd get those.||---|| Rogue Barbell Club #36 ||---||

Generally, I go by the first 'Legit' guy until it doesn't work out. Unfortunately, that has burned me a few times but I think its the only fair way to do business. Makes it easier for me as well, I can schedule times and then not get confused on who is coming and when. A long time ago I used to do "First with cash to show up takes it", but after a bad scheduling mishap that cost someone a two hour round trip I stopped doing that. I also honor the agreed upon price, even if the second person offers me a little more to sell it to them instead.

Like I said, I saw a sale specifically on non-rubberized 120lb hex dumbbells. Strangely enough, it's a weight I tend to press more often when I'm pressing heavy.
I own a 2 pair of hex dumbbells: a non-rubberized, straight handled pair of 75s & a rubberized contoured handled pair of 100s. The 100s w/ rubber are significantly larger, but not shockingly larger.
Everything else I own consists of vintage york dumbbells. Unfortunately, those only go to 100s.
I also have a pair of olympic db handles, but but I feel that's only good for max attempts. Tearing down takes too long.
I'll most likely end up sourcing pancake plates on Craigs and buying decent handles to build larger dumbbells. I'll see if i can source 35mm versions.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

I'm the same way. I'll haggle with anyone who makes an offer until we reach a deal or it becomes clear that a deal that is acceptable to me won't be reached. Once I agree on a price and pickup time, I'll hold the item, even if I get a better offer. If the guy doesn't show, then I contact the next guy in line (or the guy who made the best offer). I've occasionally had a no show, then sold the item, then be contacted by the no show with whatever their excuse is. That conversation is always amusing.

Good to know.. I just needed to affirmation that I was doing the right thing. Lol. Second dude trying to throw money at me while I'm waiting for first 'legit' guy to respond (slow emailer type). I try to treat people like I'd want to be treated. Hopefully guy #1 comes through.

Last item I sold on Craigslist I actually went with the first person handing me cash, but I usually go in order of contact. On that last item, I didn't have an actual offer but two people wanting to come look at the item. One at 5pm that day and the other at 5pm the next day. A third guy called and also wanted to come look at 5pm. I told him he was welcome to come look, but someone else might also be there at that time. He decided he could make it at 4pm. Called the other guy that was showing up at 5pm and told him that someone else was showing up at 4pm. His response was ok, let him know what happens with the 4pm guy. The 4pm guy handed me cash and I accepted!
