Here's my take on it. Not saying it was a terrible pick, but the Bears don't need another project in my opinion. I figured they were in the position to take the best player available, which should have been Eifert. Then again, Emery is the GM for a reason and I'm here typing in my boxers. Praying this works out and at least we addressed a need. I feel like we reached too far. Trying my best to not have a knee jerk reaction to all of this but it's really hard not to when Eifert is head and shoulders above the rest at that point. I think we should have traded back to pick Long later or drafted an OG later in the draft and taken someone else (i.e. Eifert) at 20.
And part of me is wondering if Howie Long is exactly why they took him. Are they putting too much stock in to his name? People do this in fantasy sports all the time and draft someone way higher purely based on name than where they should have been picked (I know you can't truly compare real sports to fantasy, but you get the idea)100,000,000k+

I like their first round pick. Was it a reach? We will see in a year or two. I remeber back many drafts when no doubt players have been taken and busted and a pick or two behind them is a guy who plays competent starter play for 5-8 years. Is it the sexy pick, hell no, but it just may be the pick that solidifies that o line that has sucked for 3 years now.

Personally, I thought Kyle Long was a great pick. If Long played linemen his entire time at college he would have been a top 10 pick. Keep in mind Long pretty much joined Oregon in the fall (originally played d-line) and became the starter at 2 positions in Chip Kelly's confusing as **** offense. Forte will become really good with Long playing gaurd. He will be much better than Slausen in the run.
Did Emery take a risk? Yes, but at the best you get a probowl tackle for multiple years and at the worst you get is an above average linemen.

You kids are unreal. The only thing they could have done better and should have done was traded back out of that pick for more picks and picked up Kyle Long..... he is going to be an absolute monster. But as said they could have gotten him 10+ picks later. But they needed an offensive lineman and he was once rated a top 5 offensive lineman prospect in this draft.... lack of tape will kill your stock. I love the choice just not how the handled it at pick 20.

as helpful as talking heads and draftniks are, we need to keep in mind they don't really dictate where the players are actually ranked among NFL executives. We see it every year. The Seahawks were laughed at for taking Irvin so early last year. Long's dad said there were 3 teams considering taking him after the Bears. Idk I am not crazy about the pick but I'm not going to be upset about it or pretend like I know more than NFL teams. Just after seeing it year after year, the best of the best NFL draft guys who have done it for years get maybe 1/4th of the 1st round right and are off by at least one round in some cases. Lets just see how it plays out.

Mayock had Long rated as the third guard (behind Cooper and Warmack) and his 28th best prospect, so it wasn't that much of a reach.
And he's a guy that could possibly play tackle too.
I liked his interviews with the Chicago radio stations today. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders but an edge to him as well which I saw in some of his highlights with the way he finished blocks. I hope it turns out.
And hopefully, Emery knows what he's doing. Otherwise, like MarcusD said, he'll be out of Chicago soon (along with Ted Phillips).
