Work on speed is . On running plays pick a hole/gap and go for it there was hesitation on a few runs, don't be afraid to run into your olinemen to get them to move. Trust me you run into a guard or tackle they'll move faster from then on.

Offseason training.
I'm currently an 8th grader with dreams of one day getting a D 1 football scholarship and playing in the NFL. Coming off two straight years where I played through lingering injuries (triceps tear and knee sprain) and still managing to start and make plays and dominate at the line, I know the potential is there if I develop myself more through training and dedication. I'm 5"11 and 140 pounds and 15.4% body fat. I've played a combination of Center, Defensive Tackle, Offensive Guard, Offensive Tackle, Defensive End, Middle Linebacker, and Strong Safety in my 3 years of experience. I started lifting a bit more than a month ago after my season ended. I run a 7:50 mile (11:20 with a sprained knee) and have a 110 max bench, 165 max squat, and 170 max deadlift as of today. At my high school there is a pretty big possibility there wont be a freshman team (only a team of 16 my 8th grade year and got cut down to 13 by the end) so I probably have to set my sights on JV next year. What are some fitness goals to reach as well as some workout tips/schedules to incorporate to excell at a JV level, and what foods/diets are reccomended for gaining muscle mass? I likely want to play DE/LB next year, what are some qualities and strengths somebody would need to succeed at those positions at a JV level?

I second the Starting Strength recommendation. It's good for your goals, and a good start with how many years you've got to grow into both working out and your own body. It will give you a good strength base for entering high school football.
As far as diet, if you are looking to up your good protein, eat plenty of eggs, and drink plenty of milk. These are easily digestible and cheap. Bill Starr has a good article floating around about eating for football.Aaron Bennett

^^^^^moronic advice
trying to achieve hypertrophy without a solid strength base is worthless. For beginners through even advanced lifters, get strong and the mass will follow.
wth is a "stable weight" anyway?
Starting Strength is a proven program that has worked with young lifters for years.
you are 5'9 and 162 pounds, you dont seem to know anything about how to get mass.

Tight end training suggestions for muscle and weight gain
i need some suggestions on work outs and eating plans for a 15 year old 6'3" ,163 pound tight end. I've been using the weight gainer Russian Bear 5000 (3 16oz cups daily), i have seen a increase in weight and muscle mass i also take creatine(1 scoop) and the pre work out C4 (1 scoop). i can't go to varsity at the size i am. I work out daily, pull ups, chin ups, push ups, curls, dead lift, squats, and chest press, and ill run on the tread mill. My biggest problem is my weight i wanna be at least 180 pounds. If anyone could give me some suggestions (work out and food) that would be great. Thank you.

Starting Strength. Eat whole foods and try to get 5-6 meals a day. Eat a palm size serving of lean protein source and a fist size of fruit each meal, with as many veggies as you want.If you stop gaining weight start eating more, simple. No reason to take that "weight gainer", its a waste of money. Don't run on a treadmill that much, go out and sprint.

If you plan on doing Starting Strength (which I recommend), you should get the actual book.
http://aasgaardco.com/store/books/st...l-training-413
You might also find the DVD good for perfecting your form.

If you can afford it, I would also pick up The Strongest Shall Survive. It's an excellent program for after you've been doing Starting Strength for a year, and by buying at the same time as Starting Strength, you'll get free shipping.

Follow the plan in Super Squats exactly as written for 6 weeks.

After that, switch to regular Starting Strength or Bill Starr's 5x5 program from The Strongest Shall Survive.Aaron Bennett

In-season Football Program
What's up!?
I was wondering if you guys know a good in-season lifting program for football? I was thinking of a 5x5 program with some accessory exercises (maybe SS, SL, Bill Starr etc.?).
Football practice is only 2 times a week.. My goals are both size & strength but during the season I care more about strength.
Thanks,

Follow Bill Starr's program in The Strongest Shall Survive. If football practice is only two times a week, you can probably do the off-season workout. In the normal setup, you do weights M/W/F and then run on T/Th. just replace the running with practice.

5/3/1 with out assistance
So maybe Squat and bench on 1 day with the 5/3/1 scheme with rows or pullups.
And then the other day deadlift/press with the 5/3/1 scheme and rows or pullups.
If you work fast it shouldn't take longer than 35 minutes at the most and the slower progression makes it easy to progress with out burnimg out

Off-season all around strength/mass/endurance/athleticism building Football programme
I designed this workout programme for myself, and I just wanted to share it with you guys who are interested.
SO MANY GAINS!
mon - legs + Heavy biceps + Forearms
Tues - Chest + hypertrophy Triceps + weighted Abs
wend - rest
thurs - Plyometrics warmup + Olympic lifts 5x5 + Cardio + abs
Friday - Back + hypertrophy Biceps + Calves + Forearms
Saturday - Shoulders + heavy Triceps + Abs
Sunday - Explosive cardio + Explosive abs at home.
Lifting days all high volume - 20-24 sets per body part/ arms 12-14 sets hypertrophy one day, strength the other day. I start every workout with 5x5 for that day, so chest day I start of with bench, Back day conventional dead lift, Shoulder day Military press, leg day squats etc. After my 5x5 for 1-2 compounds I go 8-12 reps still pretty heavy (60-70%) (hitting more hypertrophy for optimal growth).
This routine I made for myself has give me the fastest strength, endurance and muscle gain than any other routine I out there. I Designed it like a hybrid routine focusing on building explosive strength but at the same time building **** ton of muscle all around with adequate rest and calories/macros.

I want to tryout for D3 football. Any Advice?
I am a freshman and I want to try out for my schools football team. I wanted to tryout in the fall but never heard of any tryouts happening. I would assume teams have spring tryouts so that is what I am looking for. I didnt play football in high school because we didnt have football. I did soccer in order to be conditioned and fast and I gained great experience with shutting down players and making runs. I also played baseball as well and did most of my weight training geared towards baseball (my legs are exceptionally strong) I have been strength training but my stats arent high as opposed to other players because I haven't done bench press because I was always told it was bad for baseball. I started benching in college and got my bench from 135 max to 185 for 5 reps in about 2 months. I haven't squatted since my junior year of high school but the most I did was 350 for 10 reps and that was when I was 210lbs. I have leg pressed and have done 530 for 10 reps. I have yet to max out. I am currently 6'3" and 251lbs and have gained significant overall strength. I have average speed, I played defense in soccer and outfield in baseball. I have been told by numerous people that I would be a great football player and could have played D1 if I had played in high school. I just want to make the football team at my school and be a part of the program. Anyone have experience with d3 football tryouts? what do they do? What do i need to bring? What should I work on to prepare for the tryout? Any recommendations for a position based on my stats? I am a lot stronger than my bench press shows. I was thinking either DE or TE would be good fits for me. All advice is greatly appreciated. I just want a shot at playing football.

talk to the coach, football season is over, all of the players are now in the weight room. You want to play DE or TE? Do you know how to hit? Tackle? Hand to hand combat? ever Box, Muai Thai, or MMA? D3 football is competitive. Most D3 football players were starters in high school, received some honors (all district, state, etc), but weren't the perfect match athletically for D1 or D2. Only 2-5% of starting high school varsity players play at the next level; JUCO, NIAA, D3, D2, D1. You're 253lbs, they'll be looking for you to Bench > 225 (preferably closer to 315 for your weight), Squat > 500lbs, and put up respectably numbers in either the deadlift, power clean, or hang clean. As for how tryouts are run every program is different, GO TALK TO THE COACH.

Football player needing some guidance to get an athletic scholarship.
Alright, its time stop BS'ing around and pick my **** up.
I'm currently a junior in highschool who plays football. I play left tackle. I started my first season this fall, and had a somewhat decent season. Apparently enough to get first-team league honors and gain some interest from a D1-AA school that saw my highlight video. I am sending my highlight tape out to colleges starting monday, where the colleges receiving them will primarily be D2/D1-AA with maybe 2 or 3 D1 schools. However, part of me can just feel like I didn't do enough.
My current aim for college is a D1 or D1-AA school playing offensive line. I desperately need to get some interest and get some scholarships because i sure as hell do not have the money.
What advice can y'all give? recruiting, workout, nutrition etc. all are welcome. Maybe this can help another athlete with a likeminded goal.
Stats:
Ht/Wt: 6'2, 260 lbs.
position: left tackle
(All 1Rep max.)
Bench: 260
Squat: 400 lbs.
Power Clean:225 lbs

I would start by suggesting that a dead lift statistic is probably more useful than a bench press statistic. But, given you are a linemen, I understand why its there.
I feel like a broken record; but as a high school athlete, if you have not found Crossfit, I would start there.
Your nutrition and rest are as important as your training.
Perhaps the best advice I can give you is to tackle you weaknesses head on. If you suck at jumping or running work on that (dont neglect the things you are good at). But definitely focus on your weaknesses.
Good luck.www.crossfit.com

^^^HAHAHAHAHA is that serious advice? If you're telling a high school football player to do crossfit workouts to help him get a scholarship then, I'm sorry, but you don't belong on this forum.
Rex, if you're serious about getting D1 interest you really have to train hard this off season because most likely the numbers you have in the weight room before the season starts are the ones they are going to look at since signing day is pretty much right after the football season. So yes, squat, deadlift, and bench are all great numbers to focus on BUT the really important numbers that are going to impress the coaches are your Power clean, 40 yard dash, and Pro agility(5-10-5 drill). These numbers are what matter because they are the most relative to your position. Coaches want a tackle who is going to be explosive(Power Clean), have quick feet(pro a) to pick up those all american pass rushers, and be able to block for their running back down the field and not just 5 yards off the line(40 yard dash). So work on those and rack up some All-state honors, get invited to a senior or all american bowl, and you're guaranteed a spot on someones roster!Head Strength and Conditioning Coach- Onnit Academy Gym HQ
