Actually the real reason it was banned in the first place because it was in competition with the wine companies back in the early 1900's. So the wine people started negative press and myths saying it causes people to be violent and hallucinate when they drink it. Came from a docu I watched.

There's around 3-4 brands of it that my local liquor sells. You can get the best quality stuff by ordering it online though (stuff they can't put on shelves b/c of alc content).

Doesn't surprise me at all. I have friends who have tried and haven't hallucinated at all so I know it's overrated and really just a high proof alcohol. If I make it to Indiana I'll be sure to pick some up. I'm only 30 minutes from the border.
