QFT...
I don't post much on O35, mostly Fat Loss and Motivation, but I've only encountered any negativity on Misc Religion and Politics, and if you don't expect negativity on a forum where those are the two main topics, then you live in a cocoon.
Everyplace else, I've tried to be respectful to people and I've gotten the same in return. The people I see get trashed are the ones who either drank the bro-science Kool-Aid and try to preach it to people who know better, or who act like general asshats.

Tell them to put Steve on their ignore list and they won't have any more issues.
These guys are probably referring to threads like the one where the kid asked for help with his mom's routine and the first reply did nothing but make fun of the kid's height and weight. Yeah negativity happens, but you have to understand that forums are not real life and people will say things online they'd never say face to face, so who cares what "negativity" exists because it has zero effect on you unless you allow it.Last edited by HairyScandinavian; 07-21-2011 at 09:52 AM.

Any internet forum is going to have its good and bad. I like the hummingbird analogy posted earlier. The key is whether the site give valuable info.
The problem I have with this site is that its full of People talking about - What's my BF, should I bulk up or cut when they have no FN size to begin with.
You have another guy on here whining about why do we have this much info for traps when he has no traps himself. NONE!!
I saw another forum on here about somebody who just started lifting and after 2-3 weeks wanted to share progress. Progress??? Really?? After 3 weeks - really??
Is it negative to give people an honest response? For example, my wife the other day told me that I put on too much weight and had a gut and man boobies. Hurt my feelings it did, but also put stuff in perspective. I'm no Nancy boy and I'm the same a##hole in my real life gym that I am on the net.
I would rather have your honesty than have you sugar coat S**t and make me belive in myself. That's what got me Man boobs!!

Is this place negative? Not imho.
Do some threads take a negative turn.......yes, but so do some conversations in real life.
As a home lifter, this is the only place I can go and communicate with others who share my love of the iron and weight training.
There is no one in my family or any of my "real wolrd" friends that train the way I do.
So for me, it's positive.
And acting childish and imature sometimes on here is just part of the fun
I think some just don't have thick enough skin and can't roll with the punches.

I appreciate your comments, and you have good points. I think that what some people seem to have forgotten is that it is entirely possible to be honest without being rude. To not sugar coat without mocking. To give advice without being a prig about it. I am pretty direct, but I would like to think that I'm not rude.
Sometimes there may be a fine line, but I think it's a line worth striving to be on the correct side of. Like Hairy Scandanavian said, a few weeks back a kid asks a question, and the first response was an idiotic statment about his size and him needing to go to the Nutrition section to learn how to get big. That had nothing to do with honesty, and it didn't address the question at all. The poster who did that does it frequently. It's crud like that that puts people off."The LORD is my Strength and my Song, and He has become my Salvation! This is my God, and I will praise Him, my Father's God and I will exalt Him!" - Exodus 15:2

When I saw dumb stuff on these forums people just reply nice things and humor me because I'm "disabled". The best is when I get pity reps....
Scarcasm aside, we need more straight talk in this world. All this coddling is what's turning us as a society of soft-whiners who quit at the first sign of adversity. I've learned immeasurable information from this site and wouldn't have without the honest feedback of folks on here.B: 285

When you come on a board for the first time looking for advice, not knowing anything about what people expect of you as a poster and instead of sound advice and warm welcomes from posters like Ironwill, you get that kind of abuse from a poster with high rep points it tends to discourage you from sticking around and leaves you with a very bad taste in the mouth for the place. I wonder how many quality folks just turned away from participating in the forum because of this childish schoolboy welcome committee. Heaven forbid you say tone, ask about supplements or something about low t.

I enjoy it on here or I would not come here nor would I even lurk. I find many of the people to be entertaining and knowledgeable. I think there is a lot of support and positive vibes in here. If one wants to get caught up in teh crap then my guess would be that they are probably like that outside of here. So I give Bodybuilding.com two thumbs up.

This forum ain't all that mean to noobs. I've seen people reacting to some posts but nobody seems to have reacted negatively to me, and I'm one of those annoying overly-enthusiastic types that asks dumb questions or says dumb things regularly.
I've learned a few things already though, and my interest to learn more is often piqued by threads here. overall it seems like a cool forum.
