Going to the beach in a few weeks so trying to be lean for that, then actually going to work on gaining some mass. Lost a lot of weight over the last few years, remained stable over the last one...now tbh want to gain some weight back, just mostly muscle if possible

I’m a NEET, I graduated college in 2018 and don’t need to work or go to school, so I have nothing but time to devote to my cut. I would be a fool NOT to take advantage of the extra time I have and lift. I broke through a plateau this morning and am at my lowest weight in five years!

I was up about 5 lbs from first surg in Nov to day before this surgery 3 weeks ago. I'm up another 3 since then. I was askeered to get on scale today because I really thought it would be much worse.
All the Motrin/Aleve is making me retain water. I'm hoping that I'll lose this 3 lbs and maybe a little more in the next few weeks as I cut down on the meds. Supposedly 6 weeks to full recovery then if I'm still up I can start cutting.~ In a world where you can be anything, be kind ~

Yes! I'm exactly like that! I feel so frustrated. I want to be able to do what i want to do and that's exercise. Plus I hate when my jeans get too tight. This is why I don't understand when people start gaining and don't get it under control. I wouldn't want to have to buy all new clothes. lol

I've cut a bunch, and I've gotten really lean but I'm still not quite where I want to be (around 10ish %). Not sure how much more I need to lose, but I've got to be close.
I recently got a couple of size 30 jeans and can fit them very comfortably, could probably go even lower. Even back in High School (before I started lifting and spending too many years "bulking"/bloatceling) I don't think I ever wore below 32 (maybe I could have though, I don't know).
Despite all of the weight I've lost, it really doesn't seem like I've lost much strength.

I've got my waist down to 29.5" on a good day, in the morning after peeing
i've just been on a very slow cut, eating between 2000-2400 calories a day depending on how i feel as well as activity level. walking at least 10k steps, usually target 14k. lift weights 2x a week and martial arts 2x a week
what helps is the walking, and eating the same things each day; potatoes are very filling, and taste good after air frying. as for protein i just try to get at least 0.75 grams/lb bodyweight
it doesnt really feel like im dieting, probably because i'm taking things very slow

If I'm being honest I never thought I'd get here, let alone way into my 30s. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks
I distinctly remember that feeling of helplessness. It's an awful way to live. I'm guessing that's why people willingly dig their heads into the sand to avoid the issue, kind of like your mind going into witness protection program. People are so full of cognitive coping techniques sitting on a bedrock of self-loathing. Self-awareness is more important than I know how to put into words. It's truly the cornerstone to meaningful change.
I've been keeping it simple so far myself. Potatoes are a large starch staple when I cut. I tend to avoid processed wheat and opt for other sources of carbs like potatoes, sweet potatoes, oats, quinoa, and, especially, legumes. My first meal is always a legume chilli. I make a large batch, enough for 4 days, and weigh it out into 4 containers. First meal is done that way, don't need to worry about what I'll be eating. Plus, it's easy and quick to eat. Just fire her up and down the hatch.*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*

I'm all for being lean but some of you guys need to understand that it's no good being lean with absolutely no muscle mass whatsoever.
Anyone sub 200lbs should probably focus on building some actual muscle mass before worrying about getting lean. The 200lb figure is assuming your a normal height for a man and not a manlet.

you can do them many ways, but here are some that I use:
1) For quick potato wedges, i cut up around 2 potatoes into wedges, then rinse them with drinking water, then pat dry with paper towel. toss in tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, or unrefined peanut oil (this is good according to Dr. Cate). Toss with sea salt. My ninja air fryer is like a toaster oven, so I can put these wedges on a stainless steel tray after they've been oiled and salted. I lay them on the round edge so that the most air is exposed to them. Air fry for 20 min at 400 F, then i toss them in the oil on the tray and lay them on their sides, air frying for another 10 minutes
2) For something really tasty, i do patatas bravas. I chop up potatoes into 1 inch cubes, rinse with water like above, then boil them in water with salt and some baking soda for around 8 minutes. Take them out of water then fry in steel pan for 5 min on on side, then toss, then fry other side, then toss and pop into air fryer for around 10 min (?) or until they get crispy. The baking soda helps the edges become "rough" so when you air fry them they get even crispier.
For the patatas bravas, I usually make some sort of aioli with a hot sauce, a bit of ketchup, and greek yogurt or coconut oil mayo depending on what i feel like eating
With the oil that you cook the potatoes in, yes they can be 120-240 calories if 1-2 TBSP, but some of it gets stuck on the pan or can be soaked up with a paper towel. It is worth those calories, since the potato dishes are pretty filling and pretty low calorie.
The potatoes have to be russet potatoes.
Greg from Kinobody loves eating potatoes, and has some videos online making similar dishes that are filling.

I'm gonna check this out. I never used to really log anything and just go about it along with working out just doing what I felt like doing. Which is odd because I know I'm MUCH more disciplined when I have complete structure in my life. Takes all the guess work and "I don't feel like it" out of it. "This is what we're supposed to be doing and that's it" makes it so much easier.
My workouts got so much better and more consistent since I started using the FitBod app. Auto generates new workouts every day based on my own workout style parameters and how fresh certain muscle groups are. I love it. So it's odd that I haven't done the same fore tracking food intake. Definitely going to give it a whirl now though."The dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubed."

I use MyFitnessPal to track my calories and have seen amazing results. I can check on different days to see how many calories something was and see if I can use that same measurement for that food item, or if I need to use slightly less because I’ve eaten things today that I didn’t eat then.

MF is a solid app. I used it for a while but for people like me who binge too often on the weekends and tend not to track it makes the app impossible to use. It's just a bit too pricey for an app for me. I think they were working on adjusting to partial logging when I switched over but not sure if they've done that yet. I just got the Loseit app for $60 lifetime and it's good as well. Simple to use and I can barcode scan. MFP basic worked fine but I hated how the ads ruined it.
Anyway a good start to the month over here. No binging yet and the weight is starting to drop off. It's way easier to stay within my calories without the booze abd associated binging. Honestly, I have no idea. It's not here yet. I don't see myself using it but I might try it out.
Well into the second week of cut, time flies. Yesterday was pretty brutal. #1 piece of advice on my end is to keep busy, mentally and physically. Being up at 4:30am and waiting till 11am to break your fast is a long ass spell of starvation. Pretty smooth afterwards, though.*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
