why does training for strength always associate to low rep training, while hypertrophy associates to high rep training? Find someone who squats 405x10, regardless of their goal, and try to say they are not strong...I feel like whenever people say they are training for "strength", half of them just use that term as an excuse to never do anything for more than 5 reps. I really don't understand why people act like its one or another with strength training vs hypertrophy if their goal doesn't involve competing in powerlifting

Or why high volume, lower rep training can't be used for hypertrophy. But I do think those are things you have to experiment more with before you find if they suit you. Programs like Madcow are easy, laid out, and proven so more advisable for people with less experience in training

I think people need to bear in mind that the conversation is mainly on novice strength programs, which yes in most cases don't involve training the major lifts over 5 reps. and there's a reason for this.

but beyond that... powerlifters do not consider themselves exempt from higher reps, high volume, isolation exercises, focus on contracting the muscle, all that good stuff that tends to get associated with bodybuilding routines. those who do generally shortchange themselves and stall out due to not addressing weaknesses.

Lol @ICF being a "program". It's an existing program bastardized by changing 1 or 2 exercises
I know I should. It's not accident related, just other stuff.

Yes, relatives can be over rated. I've got plenty of relatives who can piss off or ones I haven't seen in at least four years. I just like this particular cousin of mine a lot. We always hung out when we could back in middle school and high school, until he had to graduate from either because he's a year older. I did eventually find his info.

If you want a fast 4-cyl, look at a WRX or EVO. If you want a fast Euro car, look at a BMW. But American muscle cars have that "feel" with the V8 you just don't get from anywhere else.
I agree on the Mustang. If I wanted a fast four banger, I'd get an Evo MR X. Why? Easy, it's fast, it handles well, it can go for hours on a track at the 5-7.5K RPM range and its dual clutch while not a true manual is unbreakable and shifts gears faster than any human alive. The only draw with those is I've been told that after a track day, you're looking at replacing the transmission oil, engine oil, tires if they're unevenly worn, brake pads, etc. I think you could take those to about 360 HP without having to upgrade much, anything after and you're looking at engine and suspension upgrades to keep the thing tacked onto the pavement.

I do disagree about the BMW statement. The price to value ratio is terrible. I was going to purchase a Gran Coupe until I test drove them a few times. Cheap feeling interior, sluggish transmission, not as powerful an engine as you would think and the list goes on. Understeered like a boat on high waves.

Nah it's about 220. Still very quick. And fuk Holden, they're killing off all Aus manufacturing & will only be selling imports in a few years. Ford & Toyota may be foreign owned, but at least they produce here & provide jobs.

I have a few channels that I subscribe to - they're all live versions. One of my favorite is "a take away show" series. It is all live music in cool settings. Really well done visual and audio work. Plus, I'm a sucker for anything live. Live is usually more raw, simple, and beautiful.

i don't know what you classify as a fitness video but brandon lilly is an elite powerlifter and created the cube method. besides some training videos he records (or did before he got injured) he just answers questions that people post on his fb page. it's good stuff. better imo than if he wrote it all out since i can listen while making coffee, stretching, checking e-mail, etc. in the morning

but okay all fitness videos are trash or whatever /shrug

Will watch it when i get chance tonight or tomorrow. Problem is i'm usually posting from work. The point is to stop chasing high number prs during workouts, and to treat your workouts as a building phase to the big day (pl meet) correct? I agree, too many people just chasing a specific number on a lift, and forget that strength comes from putting work in, not just trying a 1rm every day

my comment was a bit tongue in cheek. obv nobody got time for that; i for sure don't follow the majority of links that get posted in here. i just found it funny how people were squabbling over the very dichotomy that's more or less dispelled by an elite PL'er in a video i posted just a few pages back.

and yeah that was more or less that gist.

In reference to no one watching the video. I was just stating my opinion on fitness videos. No particular point other than a random thought.

Preferred choice of music (artists, etc.)?

    In terms of fitness videos...

^^ come on, this guy is jokes lol

But I agree, I don't watch any other fitness videos...only use youtube for random music/movie trailer vids, don't actually subscribe to anything

Doesn't change anything. I don't like listening to people talk about lifting. It doesn't interest me. Whether they are intelligent or not, I almost automatically tune them out. You may object to the "fitness" tag, but I simply mean I have no interest in that kind of stuff. The extent that I ever watch anything fitness related is the occasional training video, because they give me interesting new exercises to try or ways to tweak my current exercises.

I feel exactly that way when people bring it up in social settings. Out for a nice dinner or what have you & someone brings up diet &/or lifting. Can't stand it.

    to each his own

i'm not above accumulating all the training knowledge i can get. i've got a long way to go before i'm out of the intermediate zone and can't afford to tune out great advice, even if the 'source' is YT. guess it's the academic in me

i've had no complaints about the weather here. it's been in the chilly 50s/60s (so jogging in a tank is fine; otherwise i'm still wearing a fleece or light jacket) but at least it's normal weather for this kind of year. i still can't believe it snowed last week.

had to deal with that last week. Some people were over, and this one girl kept going on and on about why milk is bad for you. When I asked for proof, she told me to go look it up on google

Kinda like a friend telling me that she gets regular blood checks to monitor her sugar levels (she's had her thyroid out so I assume it's related) as she chugs a glass of regular pepsi. When I asked why she doesn't drink diet to avoid the sugar I was met with "I've heard too many scary stories about all that stuff". I'm more than certain that my reassurance that it's all nonsense fell on deaf ears.

No, not Jason. Screw Jason. That guy was nice to me in public but he was an utter ******* to me in private.

That other guy, I don't remember his name. I just remember people hating him. He was young.

I used to love bringing up dieting and fitness, it was an ice breaker. I enjoyed it only when I heard fact, I disliked it immensely when people would talk about weird stuff, like mass confusion. To be honest, I try to start conversations with people outside of work and I end up regretting it because there I am, listening to some random person talk about whatever it is they're talking about.

I don't know if this makes me less social than I thought I was, shy or an irritable person. As a youngster, I used to crave attention. Now as an adult, I cringe when given attention. Just let me be. Jeez.

I can see people using this post as a copy pasta because I have a very bad habit of going off on random tangents. Many hours have been wasted by me drifting off into the unknown about weird non sequiter stuff.

Yeah that guy. I don't think I ever watched more than one video of his. Like someone else said, I just don't like watching people on camera talk about diet or umm fitness. I'd rather look up other stuff, like gardening videos. I enjoy those. Or parts of concerts, live performance of songs, or instructional videos like how to open a bottle of beer in 20 different ways without cutting your hands. Or what's the best flavored toothpaste available. Stuff like that is cool.
