One more match. Didn’t see it live but it looks like Kohlschreiber put up a hell of a fight.

Congrats to Federer on the getting the #1 ranking for a few weeks!
What a way to do it. Had to climb out of a 1 set hole from the #42 ranked player in the world.
Absolute legend.

Iabs and camalama:
What an absolutely insane achievement. Federer first got #1 back in 2004. 14 years later, he’s back at #1 and every single member of the top ten back then has been retired for atleast 5 years.Last edited by ohiostate124; 02-16-2018 at 12:18 PM.

Compared to your mighty clay warrior who reached the summit in Cinci after Federer skipped it and then locked it up for the year when Federer skipped Paris. Also needed his rival to sit out an entire 3 month clay season.
Everyone knows who the real #1 is. He just made it official. He got #20. He's got the oldest #1 record. Now he can relax for the rest of the year and play freely again.
Since 2017...
Won 3 of the last 4 slams he entered. Nadal won 2 of 5.
15-2 vs. Top 10 to Nadal's 12-7.
4-0 vs. Nadal.
8 titles to 6.
14 years later...

Next record for Fed to chase now is Jimmy Connors 109 titles. He could definitely get it if he just racks up 250s and 500s. I’m curious if he will do that though.

He'll get there especially since he plans to play until he's 40. After this year when he's only 6 or 7 shy he can start vulturing 250s and 500s a la Nadal.
Anyway I hope he stops thinking about records for a while and starts hitting more freely. Everything meaningful is locked up. Go out there and have fun. That's what made the first few months of 2017 enjoyable. No expectations.

well he’s at 96 now right? maybe he can get rotterdam and then there’s 13 left. he could do it depending on where he sets his priorities. maybe he’d rather focus solely on slams/major tournaments. will be an interesting year for him.

Doesn't really matter how he did it or how it's come about (rest of the top contenders falling off). Number 1 at 36 years old is still amazing. But this thread is now a never ending cycle of Federer fans taking digs at Nadal and then his fans having to respond by taking digs at Federer. So as you were boys.
There is but one path....we kill them all.

Never the other way around? I don't see an issue really. It's harmless and nothing personal and keeps the thread moving.
This time 2 years ago Fedal were on the slide with injuries and it was all Murrovic. Since Wimbledon 2016 it's 5 slams to 0. Trolling and digs aside let's be happy about that.

Murrovic is like some ancient evil that lumbers in the back of my head (srs)
I remember RG 2016 my brother got a new place that spring and bought a big azz TV so he was like 'yo you can watch that tennis final you like here', so we do that and it's the most boring Murrovic chit ever. Disgusting *and* embarassing.

gotta be fed vs rafa, so many great matches.
also how much federer was dominating everybody and rafa came in and wasn't intimidated by him in the slightest and beat him in several huge matches.
without nadal federer seriously have ~30 slams by now and probably 2 calendar slams as well

Which would have been boring AF.
Their rivalry during 2005-2007 was exciting. I never bought into the pre-2008 "baby Nadal" BS. He was like Becker and came out of the blocks primed for GS success.
My only regret is they played over 2/3 of their matches in the first half of the year. 15 matches on clay and only 11 after RG. Wimbledon + US Open = 3 matches. That made the rivalry look one sided. If they played evenly right across the season it'd be level.
As for Nadal vs. Djokovic it's a shame they didn't have more battles at Novak's best slam. Hard to believe they only played once.
