So the over/under on Fukushima radiation deaths is similar to the expected number of lightning strike deaths in a given state for a given year

    Thorium is radioactive, too.

Did a flat earther write all that nonsense?

    http://www.who.int/ionizing_radiatio..._report_EN.pdf

The international expert group predicts that among the 600 000 persons receiving more
the most ‘contaminated’ areas), the possible increase in cancer mortality due to this
radiation exposure might be up to a few per cent. This might eventually represent
up to four thousand fatal cancers in addition to the approximately 100 000 fatal
cancers to be expected due to all other causes in this population.

    BUT

It is impossible to assess reliably, with any
precision, numbers of fatal cancers caused
by radiation exposure due to Chernobyl
    accident. Further, radiation-induced cancers
are at present indistinguishable from those
    due to other causes

gonna fall into the same boat as Chernobyl - can't tell how many cancers down the road are because of exposure versus cancers by something else.

We missed the Westworld S3 trailer before the finale, didn't see it until I got home:

    https://youtu.be/deSUQ7mZfWk

I think season 1 is a masterpiece, didn't really care for S2, and while the S3 trailer is ok, it could easily be from a bottle episode that has nothing to do with the series as a whole. But who knows, "doesn't look like anything to me."

I mean to say that thorium salt reactors are virtually non radioactive in their byproducts/waste and pose almost no risk of meltdown.

Wellll, I don't think *a* rifle or *a* person with rifles has the potential to kill as many people as *a* nuclear power plant does.

    So, there's that.

How long does the nuclear plant take to rack up the death count? You can kill a lot of people in the third world if you've got 50 years...

Sure, it's a mess for awhile, but it can be cleaned up and nobody is going to get an orange afro from it. Fire at a coal plant? Put it out and rebuild.

The theory behind nuclear is compelling. The fact that the world operates on the lowest bidder and human, um, "excellence" make it sketchy and "accidents" like TMI, Chernobyl and Fukushima are case studies in how wrong it can go with something that has a pretty epic downside. Boeing just phakked itself because some engineers and managers decided to wing it on some software and a single point of failure sensor to save a little money and time. I'm sure there's nobody like that involved in nuclear plants, though.
Nuclear power plants don't have the ability to create nuclear explosions. The worst case is spreading radiation over a large area, which is bad, but also has never really happened. Chernobyl was in Soviet Russia, which was borderline not even a developed country. Fukushima was a perfect storm with one of the worse earthquakes in recorded human history. That didn't even kill anyone. 3 mile island was in the big scope not even a big deal.

If we trust ourselves to build and store actual thermonuclear weapons, I don't even know what the debate is anymore on power. Someone could screw up and lob a missile from Wyoming to NY and incinerate 10m people in theory. It just will never happened. Same with an insane worst case scenario with a power plant, only a power plant has a much greater benefit to society and a much less severe worst case.

I'm sure the mid-80's and 90's soviets were forthcoming in their tracking and reporting of deaths and cancer given its history of full disclosure up to that point.

    So what if they weren't?

You're making my point. The only real example we have of a "disaster" was in a borderline third-world regime where no industry had safety regulations and tens of millions of people literally starved to death. Assuming that scenario applies to the US is ridiculous.

I have their Axis holster. It's a solid holster but I don't use it much. I prefer ANR Design. They're a small shop local to NH.

Interesting that the magazine popped up from Osage and not the new P365 and P320 that also leaked...
