That's the understatement of the century lol. I couldn't hate a child enough to send them to the public schools there. Private school really isn't that bad. Only about $300 a month.
The crime well... it is what it is. I'll just say this, I have a relative who had some property stolen out in the country and followed the thieves into town shooting at them with a semi auto rifle outside of his truck and the cops never even showed up. Libertarians would love it lol

Dude I was born in Montgomery and am not joking in the slightest when I say that Florida (at least northern and central I don't have much experience with south Florida) is a fukn paradise compared to Montgomery. There are some really nice areas where the wealthier people live but the ghetto is something else and its 80% of the city. Montgomery is as old south as it gets mixed with crime and poverty. Like a bigger wealthier version of Selma

Once its been ingrained into your system "normal" places seem strange. It's like Gone with the Wind in present day and while on mescaline. Here is a quick story:
My family owns a marina down on the river that they rent out. About 20 years ago, my cousin who is my age went to get gas and they wouldn't let him pump it on credit. His dad went up there to complain and was told to fuk off. He in turn called my dad and another of my uncles to straighten the situation out. My uncle went in first and one of the Marina guys friends, Mr. Greene, tried to stop him. My uncle threw Mr. Greene aside breaking his wrist and then Mr. Greene got back up and tried to stop dad which got him punched in the face and his nose broken. The Marina guy then pulls a pistol on my dad so my uncle runs out to the truck and pulls a .300 win mag out and tells the guy he's blow his fukn brains out and the dude pisses all over himself before the cops show up. All of this happened right in front of my 9 year old brother.
If you search my granddad or dad's name you get tons of hits from hunting forums where people tell the legends of what happens to poachers who fuk around on the wrong land and newspaper articles and court cases too. The scariest part is even after all that gangster chit they were doing they were all terrified of my grandmother. I still sometimes wake up in a cold sweat after having a dream about her. To this day I've never met a scarier woman in my life.6'2"

lmao...sweet home Alabama
The last wedding I went to ended up in a huge fist fight between two families. A dude popped off, he got knocked out, dude's son then knocked that guy out and away she went. The initial knock outs just layed on the ground out cold while the fight was raging, people stepping over them and chit. The women were screaming for them to stop. Wasn't my beef and I didn't know either of the crews so I stood off to the side with a beer laughing my ass off.
My aunt showed me a newspaper article about one of my family reunions that ended with a guy getting hit in the head by a board with a nail in the end of it. God bless the dirty south.

Wonder how West Virginia stacks up. My boss told me a story about how her dad and his friend were hunting in WV and accidentally ended up on private property. On the way back out they came to find 2 trees were cut and blocking their path. Apparently he had a chainsaw with him so they were able to GTFO but who knows what would've happened if they didn't.

That strip of road from Maxwell AFB (which is nice as fuk inside the gates) to down town is just...decay is an understatement. A couple years ago I had to take a detour to get to the base and ended up in some sketch neighborhood then ended up getting stuck at a train crossing. I was getting some dirty looks and I swear I witnessed a drug deal go down.

We're pretty slow right now and production is about 2 weeks ahead of schedule currently, so production wise, we should be fine. Plan on brining some back sooner than 2 weeks, but will only be those that worked far away from that employee and we'll be screening those people next week.
1st shift has already heard about it and are freaking out. Don't blame them. Having individual training/conversations today. You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Got my, what seems to be the norm now, "sorry we cant get your escrow account right" refund check yesterday. Pulled the envelope out of the mailbox and definitely didnt look like spam mail from them, looked closer and realized what it was. It's nice, but also annoying. $1900 the day i find out i need to fork out $400 to clean up trees from storms in the rental is nice.

I even turned blue in the face 2.5 years ago trying to explain to them what happened with the taxes/school tax too. Basically the previous owners got a 50% redux in local and school tax because >65 and they never fixed it. City finally updated after a year, back charged for the year, and then sent a "new" bill with what the taxes actually are in a year. Pretty straight forward. But bank sees this as "oh your taxes are 6K a year" not...3500. So they over reacted to it. Literally got one of the bank's checks back from my City saying it was overpaid. Called them, asked what to do with it, and tried to get them to fix the escrow. Nope. Nothing.
Part of me is also curious how much i will walk away with from selling here soon for similar reasons as you mentioned.
On a side note, i was poking around at real estate back in VA. There is a recently redone townhouse for sale, and i could buy it outright after selling the house up here/getting the equity out.
Theres a large part of me that wants to do that for now until i get settled with someone.MFC

I might be just daydreaming about low property costs and walking around in a t-shirt in February.
The move here for people of certain age and investment position seems to be picking up a place in PHX or Corpus Christi, then cash your work air miles for winter travel and snowbird it a couple of months a year.------♥♥-----

Honestly, I have always wondered how in gods name you were all living in these mansions. It all makes sense now.
I looked it up and in my area the average asking price is $1,182,535 for a 1516 sq ft house. The average property size is 2-3 acres, some with waterfront. I’m not sure if it’s the same in the states, but the basement square footage is never included in that number. My house lists as 900sq ft with a fully finished basement, 3 acres. My neighbour just sold for $600k. NOTHING here is under $400K unless it’s a total **** hole. That’s Canadian though. So $200k amurican, lol. But when you guys show pictures of these mansions I’m like, HOW RICH ARE THESE PEOPLE?!?!
Eng, I don’t even live in the GTA. I’m 2 hours away from Toronto. Also... I also feel like I belong in the dirty south and it calls to me. BUT, I could never deal with the heat. I’m a durty north snow whore.
(Also the stories you guys tell are so far from the life here. Maybe that’s why we pay more?)Squats and Maple syrup son. Squats and Maple syrup.
