Have a serious question, which is the most stable bachelor's to get in healthcare overall? I'm saying which has the best opportunities out there?

Hey fellas,
Need some advice. Graduate in May with BSN (Said this before here).
Original plan was to become CRNA, GPA isn't as high as it should be, and math and chemistry aren't my strong points. After this semester my GPA should def increase a few points, and I have one more semester with Capstone, Mental Health, and preceptorship.
Not sure where to go. If I want to do CRNA, I need to apply for CCU/ICU jobs to gain the experience needed to apply for school.
If I don't do CRNA, I will get my NP or MBA. Really just lost on what I should do when I graduate. I am 24 years old and would like to have a plan as to what my next step would be. Any advice?? What are you guys doing?

Granted, I am still bedside (exploring MBA options) but why dont you work in the field for a few years? I initially thought I wanted to be a midwife (ROFL) then an NNP... Now, **** that noise. I want my O.U.T. and do something else that is within healthcare but away from patient care yet not in management.

Thanks for the response. I most definitely will work for a few years. But, I want to work on a unit that will be good experience for whatever I choose to get my masters in, you know? I like to have a plan, it keeps me focused. Where I choose to work post-graduation will be where I am heading for my Masters program, if that makes sense.
Midwife would probably be cool. Just finished up my maternity and Peds rotation, had 2 c-sections and it was one of the coolest things.
Really just not sure which direction to go after I graduate. Which unit do you work on?
Edit: When I think about it, something about becoming a CRNA just feels right. Thats why I applied to Nursing school 4 years ago. I had a recommendation letter from a CRNA who became my Mentor and who I still speak to, still pushes me to pursue it. Anyone I speak to tells me to pursue it. Unfortunately my GPA is a 3.0 (should be higher by graduation) and like I said earlier, Math and Chemistry are my weak points. I also think, that in 2 years after I have my ICU experience, If I were to apply to CRNA school, where would I be. Would I have a family, would I want to try to have a family, could I put my life on hold for another 28 months, etc.Last edited by ASATS; 12-14-2015 at 07:31 PM.

WHy not try out ICU, ER, CVICU, subactute, etc and see what you like? The first one you get into may not be your favorite area, so why not just get into one and then move around a bit? You would need ICU for most of your options anyway (I assume.) You might decide you want to go the NP route and get into ortho or cardiac or even community and education? Or heck, maybe you may find yourself drawn to management. I'm just advocating to keep an open mind because once you actually get in your mind will probably change a few times.
midwife would suck ze balls to me, I wouldnt have the patience for some of the ignorance that goes on with some of these google experts. The DOcs get the fun part of the surgical stuff.
I'm in Neonatal ICU. You get a variety of kids that will do well, old chronic kids who are still manageable, and the super sick and super tiny and some crazy congenital anomalies. You see so much good mixed in with the bad that burnout is low, but at the same time, it can be BORING if you're in a unit/hospital that doesn't get anything interesting. What's Spicy Training For?? That's awesome. I went to the neonatal ICU for a day and enjoyed it.
If I were to just not worry about pursuing further education, I would want to get a job in the ER after graduation. I guess I have some time to figure it all out, I need to get a job ASAP and start paying these loans back though...
Thanks for the help!
I heard that back in 2012-2013. Do you know when/if they are going to actually implement that? Would qualifications for acceptance change? Good to hear about that SRNA, maybe I still have a chance.

I still can't get over the fact that I'm going to be about 24 when I get my bachelors my jimmies are still rustled. Brb losing 2 years because I let my potato parents convince me when I was in high school not to go straight to university. Brb I'm going to be applying for the fall 2017 semester because my last classes I need to finish pass application deadlines for spring by a couple of months.

ABG after 2 hours: 6.3pH, 88 CO2. fukkin hell mate. never been more gotdamn angry in my life. go to a birth center, or fukking somewhere with resuscitative equipment.

Sorry to hear that m8.
Okay, so I still have some time to get in before 2020 lol
On another note, if you don't mind me asking, are you happy with the pay as a RN? I am from NY and COL is extremely high and I have a lot of loans (close to 90k -__-) That I want to pay off within a few years of working like a dog.

I think about this sort of thing too, but it's all part of your journey as arman. Take it as a learning experience.
Some people go straight to university without figuring out what they want and end up with a B.A in ceramics, whereas some people do better taking a little time off to figure it out. Idk what your individual situation is, but I can tell you if I went hard into uni right out of hs I'd have a much worse GPA right now.

That rent is exactly what it would be here for 1 bedroom basement apartment. Were all gunna make it.
On another note, I had gotten one of my last choices for my preceptorship next semester. Unfortunately, I didn't even get in a hospital. I got into a Rehab center (Cardiac Rehabilitation
Neurological Rehabilitation
Physical Therapy
Occupational Therapy
Orthopedic Rehabilitation
Stroke Rehabilitation
Swallowing Therapy
Wound Care)
Do you think that I will get more, less, or a good experience here rather than on a med surge floor in a hospital? A little bummed that I got this site.
