You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Check out these gorgeous 80 year old plates I got off eBay. ($19.00 + some 5lb Yorks + shipping.) These are officially the oldest iron in my collection. York copied this plate design for their 1st set of plates, referred to as the 'A' plate. They are essentially the same design but with blank casting and an A stamped into it.

The seller says it's a barbell weight but I think it's probably something else... maybe a wheel or a part of a machine. I can't clearly see the patent date but it looks like maybe the 1880s or 1890s. Anyone know for sure what it is? The seller didn't specify size or weight... or any useful information at all. The two look like they might not be the same size but I'm not sure if it's the angle of the photo.

Good call. It could be a part from a steam engine or textile machinery. All that I know is its not a barbell plate. Reminds me of the Dr. Ken article where he talks about doing deadlifts with manhole covers..

Found this dumbbell locally. It looks like some that Dumb.bell found earlier this year, but just wanted to check to see what you guys thought.

I think you're right. Haven't picked it up. Not really interested for myself, I'll pick it up for you DB if you want it. It's cheap too.

LOLOLED!! Reps dude.
Nevermind, on spread. My vote goes to "The Deepest of Dishes", and "Atty and the Spinlocks". The last has the best ring to it.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #47

Is it steel or cast iron? I'm thinking it's steel but it's difficult to tell from a photo. The stamped number is probably a good indication that it's steel since steel is ductile whereas cast iron is brittle.. Also, steel will make a ringing sound when struck.

It's a nice plate. I saw something similar when I took a look at some York plates and what I thought were two York bars... it turned out that one of the bars was from a different manufacturer and the other bar was actually made by him. He also made some steel plates for his leg press.
I think it would be difficult to tell if they were shop made by a company (like PDA) or shop made by an individual since some of these guys are machinists by trade.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #32 []---[] ()---() York Barbell Club #43 ()---() ▉---▉ Equipment Crew #50 ▉---▉
