Depending on the hospital, float pool may put you in a lot of 1:1 watches. The aides occasionally get pulled from my floor. If possible I wouldn't do medsurg as an aide. All you will do is wipe butts, baths, vitals, blood sugars. I did that for a year on a step down unit and it was good experience but damn I would have loved to be in the ER. The ER won't have you responsible for bathing 20 patients a shift either. I'd go for ER personally. Any CNA job you get in a hospital will be good experience and help you find a job after graduating.

Good luck with your interview brah.
I didn't like my practice math score, so I hired a GRE tutor for like $500-1000, was worth it - my math ended up higher than my English.
Take a few practice tests and see how you do, you don't need killer scores for anesthesia school, as they are putting less and less weight in it, but you don't want to be the guy with everything else killer but a low score.
Personally, I'd focus on becoming an outstanding ICU nurse (once you get into a unit) and put all my effort into that goal. Then if you want to go school after a couple years you can actually get recommendations.CRNA Crew

Thanks, CRNA brah. I'm naturally better at math than at verbal (insert Asian stereotype). I was eyeing the verbal reasoning section and all those words just blow my mind. I downloaded the Magoosh flashcard app, so hopefully that'll help. I have a friend's mom who's a CRNA, so I may ask her for a recommendation. Who did you go after for recommendations?

GRE scores from where I interviewed were all very low on their priority list. They wanted clinical knowledge and experience above all. Regarding recommendations for anesthesia school, get one from an attending or chief resident you've had many interactions with. You'll get one from your manager and a couple from the CRNAs you'll shadow before applying to school

Manager is must, a surgeon/medical doctor is also very important. I had my nurse manger, an anesthesiologist that would run the unit sometimes, and one of my professors from undergrad for whom I was also a research assistant.
The key is to become a standout ICU nurse, then everything else will fall into line. Critical care is intense, but if you put everything into it, you can make a difference which people will take note of (and good things will happen for you).CRNA Crew

Guys, I have a problem
I have the first phase of the interview process tomorrow with CVICU tomorrow morning, but I have the last phase of the interview tonight with the MSICU. The CVICU manager is going to be gone all next week and I doubt the MSICU is going to give me a week to make a decision.
Wut do?
UPDATE: MSICU peer interview went very well last night. Getting ready for CVICU interview later this morning. Why is it that when people ask about future goals, becoming a CRNA is frowned upon? I usually get that feeling so I say I'm interested in pursuing a career in PCCM lol.Last edited by guyman123; 08-27-2015 at 05:36 AM.

We have a "primary" nursing on my floor. Where we could most likely take care of a particular patient due to the nurses and the patient "connecting".
One of my primary patients got into remission.... but he got a fungal infection and during surgery he became hemodynamically instable. They thought he was acting goofy cause of anesthesia in his system.... did a preop MRI of his head....
he had an infarction... feelsbadman. I am pretty down about it.
I was worried he died, but I saw he was being transferred to us. I had him for 5 hours last night until they found he had a stroke. then he had to go to tele =(. Frontal lobe infarction... =(
He beat cancer but the complications of the chemo beat him =(
I was the nurse who admitted him almost 2 months ago and I was his first nurse on the floor. Went from ER to me. =(From Houston, now I am in San Diego

agreed, although its only 1 credit here at my school so i cant imagine the exams are very hard.
Had my first Foundations exam today. Received a 83% and i'm pretty damn bummed about it. Wanted an A so bad. Put about 40 hours of studying total for this exam. I was able to meet with the dean and look over what questions i got wrong. Out of the 10 i missed, 5 were stupid mistakes that i knew, i'm blaming my horrible test anxiety for those lil guys. Whats even worse is that in my program the passing grade is a B-82%, none of that 76% here! Anything less is considered failing. So i'm just on the pass/fail border. Bought a Foundations Q&A test taking book off of amazon to hopefully help me get the grades i want, wish me luck guys, pce out byeDeadlift: 435

my intro class is combined with the Ethics class so its even more boring, worse part is i retain very little from studying cause how uninteresting it is
Damn 40 hours...fuark. Like you said it was probably anxiety that took effect on your grade.
I had my first check off for hand washing/PPE yesterday on the first day of skills lab.....brb trembling of how scared i was doing it in front of the instructor*Always pick 4 crew*

Wake up at 4, takes a pre workout and head to the gym. Lift till 6. Force feed some food before work or eat it all there.
As for life? Well you only work 3 days a week anyway lol.
I was really upset about being hired on an 8 hour floor at first but now I can see the advantage. Have more than enough time to sleep, eat, lift and maybe even see friends.Eat Right. Lift Heavy. Be a Fat Manlet.
