I'm wondering if the fitness industry will ever be the same again. I could easily see the notion of fitness centers/gyms being a thing of the past. I believe it may be time for all of us to invest in the home gym. Just food for thought....

Dude I don't know where you are, but where I am lots people don't even have a washer and drier in their house, let alone room for a home gym.
Also gym equipment is expensive as phuk, even just plates and dumbbells, the heavier ones are a lot of money and not too many people have that kind of money. Especially with what's happening now, people are losing their jobs, they probably spend their money in groceries, not in home gym equipment.

Seriously tho, close by there's a park with a hiking trail that has little stations with things like a pullup bar, parallel bars for dips, etc, and I finally got around to going there. Did a few pullups, pushups, dips, lunges, and the following day I was sore as phuk. In another month I'm going to be back to cardio bunny status.

All I'm saying is that I don't see home gyms replacing commercial gyms any time soon for the average person. Just not practical including financially. Jelly as phuk of people with home gym these days tho.

I disagree with this meme. In the US, it's more like having one in a pond rather than a pool. I'm not against social distancing and targeted lockdown measures, but expecting people in Caribou, Maine to be locked down in the same way as people in NYC right now is irrational and unsustainable.

This will make people discover that the average person's fitness goals (but obviously not powerlifters or body builders) can also be met by vigorous outdoor exercise and basic calisthenics etc. All without special equipment, PT and monthly subscription.

I've done pretty well with my home gym since switching last summer. For me, the key is working out in the morning before work, if I tried to do it in the evening I think it would be incredibly easy to become distracted and end up not doing it. Of course the fact that I spent a fair bit of money on it helps since my wife would give me a pretty hard time about it if it wasn't used much.

Since moving to the home gym last year, I have experimented with the low volume that everyone has been talking about. It works best with a home gym because who wants to drive to a gym and only train for 20-25 minutes and then turn around and drive back home.

At some point I will move on to trying for gains again, but for now, I'm good and have minimized the amount of time spent on training while maintaining quite well. That said, I agree it is difficult to keep from being distracted training at home.....the same can be said about working from home too.

What I have learned over some years is that committing to working out early in the morning, helps psychologically. There is no time to convince yourself to not workout and you are done with it and it is not on your mind throughout the day. The rest of the day and evenings are free.

I can’t see myself going to the gym even after this thing is over. The thought of all kinds of infections, etc transmitting in the gyms makes me want to throw up. When this whole thing started I panicked and bought a squat rack with barbell and some plates. I have very small laundry room, but it fit there I have a small townhouse too, the thing hardly fit there. Anyway, something changed in my mind about being in the gym and the energy will never be the same FOR ME. I don’t know how others feel

I dunno...I've been going to public gyms for 20+ years and have never picked up any kind of infection. As soon as my gym re-opens, I'm going back. I'm not worried even a little bit.

BJJ is definitely not compatible with social distancing. Maybe you'll get back into it once this whole thing blows over.
