Just got back from Doc, referred me to a surgeon saying imaging would be redundant at this point.
Woo-freaking-hoo.
I'm thinking I didn't get the mesh when I first had it repaired when I was much younger. Not that it was my choice - I don't even remember them talking to me about the operation, it was mostly my mother they talked to. Lotta good that did.
I'm so pissed.

I had a tension free mesh rapair three weeks ago, is that what they called Trabucco style , right ? It consists in a Mesh and a plug.
Actually the most popular "cut" techniques are :
1 - Lichtenstein (cut , mesh)
2 - Shouldice or canadian technique (cut and no mesh)
3 - Trabucco (cut , mesh and plug).
I heard the last one (tension free mesh) is the best for people making sport 'cause the mesh is a bit stronger and the plug will give more stability (the recurrence is less than 0.5), however it gonna cause more problems in terms of recovery.

Had my operation today: I ended up opting for a local doctor, he did a great job though. Dr. Timothy Walker. He did a mesh repair laproscopically.

hey bumpin this thread cause i have a question
sometimes when im doing legs, especially after heavy squats i start feeling pain in my lower abs. i usually cut the workout short then because i am paranoid about getting a hernia. i was weondering, is this what the procces getting a hernia actually feels like?
and are lifting belts designed to prevent hernias? or are they just for lower back suppor..
thanks in advance

Well, hernias are most often due to a defect, and are often hereditary. That being said, it still is possible to get a hernia just by stressing the abdominal wall too much. Most important things are:
-use correct form (including the 'lockout' method when squatting)
-don't lift too much weight, where your form becomes sloppy and you risk injury
Talk to a doctor if you ever suspect you have a hernia - they can be life threatening left untreated (true).
You should see a doctor and have him check your abdomen out.
There really isn't one telltale sign of a hernia - some people have excruciating pain constantly, some just feel discomfort some of the time, etc. For me, it wasn't during any activity I actually reopened mine, but it was the next day where I felt it.
Lifting belts, as far as I know, are for lower back support - but supporting your back can help prevent herniation as well. It's always a good idea to wear one!Bulked to 220 / 21.3% BF

my advice, which i live by now - words from my doctor don's strain your self (i.e. like when you are taking a dump, dont force it, just relax) and 2nd quit smoking if you do. A chronic cough will aid a weak abdomenal wall in causing a hernia.
with regards to lift, all i can say is just remember to breath properly!

by proper breathing, i mean inhaling and exhaling at the appropriate times during the lift. Most important just DONT hold your breath through out the lift. When you hold your breath and strain to lift a weight, that is what can lead to a hernia during lifting.
Good luck staying away from those hernias! They suck big time!
