Bando,
Sorry for the late reply and your bad news. Try not to gain weight this time. I'll often hear people talking about losing this much weight or that much weight . . . let's say it's 50 lbs. I'll say "you know what's 10X easier than losing 50 lbs? LOSING 5!!!" Dieting sucks.
Praying for a quick, full recovery!

Well here we go. less than 40 hours until "right shoulder arthroscopy, rotator cuff repair, subacromial decompression, acromioplasty, biceps tenotomy vs tenodesis."
Worst thing is I just benched 245 x 8 with a slight decline this summer. I don't feel that busted up.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

That flat bench seems to be the culprit for many of us, oddly enough my pain disappeared.
I got really lucky because i was certain that a surgery was in my future.

Decline is actually better angle for shoulders.
Something just hit me, like a ton of bricks. All the form police criticize the arch benchers. I wonder if arch bench is actually better on the shoulders?
I laugh at these form police folks who want to see a perfect executed bench. The only place for that is a power meet. If your pressing a weight with an arch, your still working pressing muscles under max loads, your still gonna gain.
Lots of other “pec” exercises out there, like heavy flys, or pec deck lol.Authenic Kights Sing Heavy Steel and Have Hands and Wriss of Steel!

I've never heard of someone with a strong core destroying their back arching a bench? The old-time lifters used to do pullovers and press in the neck bridge, or pullovers and press before the bench was ever invented.
Many of people have damaged disks from conventional deads and squat though.Authenic Kights Sing Heavy Steel and Have Hands and Wriss of Steel!

As anything, there’s a right way and a wrong way.
You know you can utilize the hips in an arch right? Not your back.
For best and safest position, the bar should be lower, more like at nipple or a little below. It gets more dangerous when the bar higher up, as the hips aren’t supporting it.
I know thing or two, about a thing or two.
I generally do all my higher rep floor pressing for starting strict and then I
Start arching. But that’s just me.Authenic Kights Sing Heavy Steel and Have Hands and Wriss of Steel!

Surgery went well, rotator cuff was a clean tear, upper bicep tendon was also repaired. In a sling now, 4 weeks in sling, pain tolerable.
I've been a miserable azzhole to some people in this community leading up this. I apologise, there's no excuse for it.
The dread, anger and misery I've been through leading up to this was not worth it, I just needed to grow up and realize I'm not invincible.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

I can do anything that doesn't involve that shoulder in 4 days. For several weeks I'll just be doing ROM stuff with the shoulder, I can do a few things with that side OK, but I can't brush my hair, can't raise my arm high enough.
I'm getting pretty good with my left hand, takes me way longer to eat, kind of interesting watching everyone shovel food down and be done 10 minutes before me.
1st thing I'm going to do is pick up my gently sleeping guitar, as much as I've missed heavy weights, I've missed my Ibanez even more.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

The scars are terrible, 5 of them. I'll get my wife to take a pic.
I have no doubt I can regain my size, if not my strength by summer, but what good is a shoulder that looks like it was hacked up by an apprentice butcher?

It’s just a few scars, If it bothers you that much, wear a shirt, as long as your employment doesn’t involve a stripper pole or a Chippendales banana hammock,
You’ll be just fine. When they heal it will look better.
Just consider it character. I would gladly trade pain free functionality for a few scars any day.

6 weeks post op update
Out of the sling for 2 weeks, felt good to pick up my guitar again. Pain negligible, weakness pretty annoying.
Started PT yesterday but been doing youtube stuff at home to keep the blood flowing. PT is just stretching for 2 more weeks then band work for 4 then weights at 6 weeks.
I was concerned about scars so I started using a scar gel as soon as the stitches came out. I met with the surgeon this morning and said "I was concerned about scars so I started using a scar gel as soon as the stitches came out." He inspected my incisions and said "wow I've never seen scars heal this quickly, there's hardly going to be anything to see, you must have amazing healing abilities." So I guess medical science doesn't support scar cream even when the results are staring them in the face.
As for the gym, I started cardio and a little light core work at 3 weeks, 5 weeks legs and heavier core stuff and yesterday started heavyish non operative side work. It's kind of crazy working one side even though I know it's beneficial. A few days ago I got an article from one of my feeds where Dorian Yates snapped his tricep tendon a few weeks before Olympia and still competed, it was nasty, "blood and guts" but he did it. According to him working the strong side will help the weak side. I don't have his DR's but my sports doc says I should be where I was pre-op by May.
In my gym there's currently a big fish, small pond guy maybe 40, with a decent build that likes to instruct all the kids on what they are doing wrong. He's a big show off, stringer tank, covered in tattoos. He makes a point to strut around with his muscles in front of me, it doesn't really bother me, I'm guilty of doing that in the past.
Take care of your shoulders people, there's a few light exercises you can do a few times a week that will help you avoid the BS I'm going through.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

He sounds alright to me, except the string tanks are kinda stupid.
I like to start my custom cuts at the neck of the shirt and go out. Nipples should NEVER be exposed.
I’m going to cut one my flannels that way so it exposes my traps, they should be getting good size around spring.
Looking forward to seeing your comeback Bando!Authenic Kights Sing Heavy Steel and Have Hands and Wriss of Steel!

Bando when you get bored, write a post on lessons learned and the exercises to prevent going through what you just did.
I wrote this post because i was certain i would be going through what you just did, but i got very very lucky. There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!
