The potential issue here is that the full blockchain needs to exist and be possessed either by miners or by individuals in mining pools. I think a lot of what is holding btc up is how hard it is to get your money out of it. When these crashes happen people can't just take all their money out of it, majority of the wallets and traders only allow you to trade btc to cash at about 14k a week.
