This is a misconception. Hedge funds account for less than 1% of house purchases per year

30 year olds with dual incomes make about 70-80k combined a year. That's no problem affording a 3300 mortgage? Are you smoking crack?

80k after taxes is like 5k a month. What you can really afford on 5k a month is a 1300 mortgage, which doesn't exist anymore

Even a 300k house with 7% interest is a 2500 payment. The median income in places where houses can be found for 300k is like 40-50k a year. That's 3300 a month after taxes dude

Exactly. All the complaining I see (in real life) is from people who want some dream home to start with. They all seem to forget previous generations all started with smaller homes and moved up when they had more money.

You guys seem to think a 3k payment is a mcmansion. Mcmansions nowadays are 5-7k payments. It's not 2010

yeah...your first house may be......small....and kinda ugly. but you fix it up a little at a time, pay it down and then later decide to upgrade as hopefully your income has gone up. "average price" is more like what people might get in their 40s or 50s.

2 median or higher incomes and no children is about the only way you can make the numbers work out.

Speaking of kids, they're pretty much a thing of the past for people under 40. Houses are pretty much gone too. As structural inflation pushes younger generations further into poverty, cars will be the next item they can no longer afford.

Things should be stable for a bit after those 3 big-ticket items are out of reach. The next items for negative real wages to claim would probably be meat, internet, and heating fuel, but by that point you are literally a 3rd world country. I think we're going to end up looking lot like Brazil by the end of it.

The way I see it, prices won't go down substantially. Governments lose tax revenue, boomers lose money, the rich guys pulling the strings lose money... they have every interest in keeping real estate propped.

Interest rates are phukky, and I don't know whether they will continue moving up (because the US is broke), or go down (because the US is broke). I would not want to place a mortgage-sized bet either way.

So I would say if you can swing the payment today, just do it. There is almost 3x more USDs running around compared to '09, and no one wants to hold cash. If doubling monthly payments didn't break the back of list prices, I don't know what else will.

if wages don't keep up with rising housing costs, things will stabilize. nobody's going to pay $4000-5000 monthly to live in a $400k home

sorry but no one feels sorry for people who complain and do fuk all about their situation. You only want to talk about why you can't afford a house but you never talk about how to change your situation. When someone offers some advice you just say "that's not realistic". Yeah, well fuk off then.

Look at Canada. They have 3 bedroom houses being shared by 10 military-aged male Pajeets.

If the government keeps pumping immigrants across the border, prices will increase and wages be damned.

That's not how it works though. Of course you have to course correct and not be a victim, but you also have to realize the insanity of asset prices to income ratio is through the roof.

The average housing price jumped 31% from 2020 to 2023. Now go through every asset that went up as well, and compound it.

The average wage increase is 3%.

That's a system that is broken and cucking you to a point of peasantry. So talking about this and trying to figure out what to do while noting how absurd it is....is a normal thing to do.

I don't think people truly understand how INSANE this is and what is going to happen in the US financially. It's not going to be pretty.

no one isn't noticing, we're trying to move and buy a crash pad apartment in the city. It's crazy but doable.

No one is buying into the mortgagecel alt nonsense though

Yea and now they are talking about rate cuts in september lmao. Pump the market and asset prices up!

Buy gold and silver. It's one of the only affordable assets for normal people to still get into before even that will take off.

    Dollars are halving

Welcome to reality. Now what are you going to do about it? More whining or do you have a plan to get you a little bit closer to your goal. Your post typifies what losers do. "OK, let me talk a whole bunch more about why it's hard."

How about talking about what you're actually gonna do? Or are you gonna pray that some divine intervention takes place? Fml

I only care about this as much as it being a topic of conversation. If you guys keep standing around with your thumbs up your asses you will be the ones fuked in the end. Be my guest.
