That one is a Sunbeam model, got it on sale for half off (~$80) and used it every day for about 18months now without any issues.

Can select the coarseness of the coffee from really fine to coarse too. Big plus is that it holds a decent amount of beans so I only need to refill it every so often.

I keep a moka press at work with a hot plate. I try not to have coffee in the daytime but sometimes just need a little bit of an edge.
I have a combo drip machine with espresso maker on the side at home. I can't remember the brand since was free to me, but I will probably look into a French press when that craps out.#sunyourballs

I had some Kenya AA in the morning before uni. I'm really starting to dial in the aeropress process, I got it to down to a science lol. Tastes so good man.
I think I like the ritual/process/science of it almost as much if not more than actually drinking the coffee lol. I definitely look forward to it in the morning.Last edited by pwoL; 03-27-2014 at 11:18 AM.

Anyone else use a Clever? This or chemex is my favorite for at home. Haven't tried the aeropress yet.
Definitely buy a grinder! You're not supposed to store coffee in the fridge/freezer. Grinding it on the spots makes for the best cup.
Check out Gimme! Coffee if you're in NY.
2nd that recommendation on an Hario hand grinder. Burr grinder >> mill grinder for consistency of grind.

Dave Asprey is a *******, but people have been putting all sorts of butter in their coffee forever. I did the whole grass fed butter + mct oil (NOW brand, not ******* Aspreys brand) back with my poverty coffee for a while and liked it. I have always drank my coffee black, and want to continue that to get the full taste of the quality beans now. Also, getting the blender out and cleaning it afterwards would just be such a hassle now and would add more steps to my already (somewhat) long brewing process.

I can only drink my coffee black IF it is made from good beans and is prepared in a Chemex or Aeropress.
Can someone who is more savvy aware me on why these methods taste better to me? I notice less bitterness overall and a cleaner after taste.ooxxooXoXXx

Quality of beans and I think the high filtration of the Chemex definitely seem to help.
What about these factors:
1. Type of grind - Burr grinders grind more evenly which is supposed to make for a better brew, but why?
2. Water temperature - Does it matter as much with coffee as it does with tea? If I am using a Chemex set up, or even an Aeropress or FP, I can control this.
3. I have been told ground coffee must be "bloomed" before a pour through, meaning a little water is added to the top of the grind to allow gasses to escape. These gasses then don't end up in your cup. How valid is this?
4. Equipment - My grandfather was in the Navy and military folks swear that the dirtier the coffee maker and cup used, the better the flavor. I clean everything thoroughly before each preparation in search for the "perfect cup".ooxxooXoXXx

Sup coffee brahs! Are espresso drinkers allowed in this crew?!
I'm from San Diego too and I am interested to try some coffee beans from the newer roasters (ie. Dark Horse mentioned earlier). Right now I'm drinking Caffe Calabria's Victory at Sea. It's one of my favs because they use it in one of my favorite beers, Ballast Point Victory at Sea.
My set up:
Gaggia Classic and using 17grams of coffee per pull
Baratza Vario
The second grinder pictured is a Baratza Preciso, and it's a grinder that gets a lot praise when used in French Press for its consistent coarse grinds. If some of you brahs are looking for a good FP grinder try giving that one a chance.
Do u even compound lift?
