As someone who has had a knee on their neck multiple times from wrestling/sparring, it's really not that bad, especially when the placement leaned towards the shoulder blades/upper traps than the actual neck itself. If he wasn't high, he wouldn't have died, and someone's intoxication status shouldn't dictate officer UOF policies.

Floyd was SCREAMING in the back of the police car (where he is seen eating many bags of drugs and chewing pills where he DEMANDS the cops take him out of the car and put him on the ground.


Derek then FOLLOWS POLICE PROCEDURE and uses the stations OWN TACTICS of keeping him stationary and safe on the ground using a simply knee to the back.

There's a video from an angle someone took that shows that the cop was not on his neck, but had his knee between Floyd's shoulder blades. I'm sure you can still find it if you look for it.
