I tried Pure Coffee as well, hate it. The coffee note comes through more like a rotten caramel smell.

I've changed my mind. Pure Coffee has some good notes it just needs to be blended. I layered with Pure Tonka and it is really pleasant and not overbearing at all.

I really like Mugler as a whole now that I've tried most of the line. Is there any point in trying the original A-Men or is it pretty similar to all of the flankers I own? Planning to try Pure Wood tonight (lol)

Ran out of my YSL La Nuit. I'm a simple SOB and was going to get it again, but was reading some recent reviews that they butchered it with a reformulation and it doesn't last or even come close to the previous batches. Any truth to this?

If yes and it's garbage now, any alternatives with a similar profile you guys would recommend? You guys haven't steered me wrong yet, so open to any suggestions.

I won't pretend i've done a wrist to wrist comparison of vintage la nuit compared to the newer stuff, however it is widely agreed that new YSL La Nuit is poverty. Don't beat yourself up for being a "simple SOB" though, for starters that's a great versatile scent. Also, i'm actively trying to make my own frag collection "simple".

As for alternatives with similar scent profiles I'd highly suggest picking up a bottle of Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Amyris or Lumiere Noire. Amyris is going to be a little closer to La Nuit but i found Lumiere Noire equally enjoyable.

WILL I love you brah but you don't need to go straight niche to replace la nuit. I have Amyris extrait and it's not similar to it imo.

We're looking at similar dark sexy vibe, similar cost, similar beauty but better performance for date night. This is what I suggest, from cheapest to most expensive.

1. Perry Ellis Oud Black Vanilla Absolute. It has crazy longevity but doesnt project out like a monster and make people sick. This is what I want for date night. It's a beautiful slightly boozy creamy vanilla smell with slight fruits. It smells like rum and raisin flavored ice cream. I paid like $35 for mine and damn near laughed at how incredible the quality of smell was for the price I paid. There are no harsh synthetics in this, it is smooth AF.

2. Carolina Herrera Ch Men Prive. Sex in a bottle, the "bad boy" fragrance. This has a backbone of the original Ch Men which is a beautiful sugarcane and woods. To the backbone it adds its own twist of spices, including cardamom which is one of the main notes in la nuit. This is why you get the same type of vibe. I have gotten the most memorable compliment on my life from a girl who smelled this on me. She was 4 feet away and I had sprayed 3 sprays about 8 hours earlier. Wasn't smelling it on myself but she definitely did. Told me I smelled sexy as fuk and she would rape me right now. Up until that point we had never fukked before.

3. Chanel allure homme sport eau extreme. Starts off with that chanel citrus DNA and quickly settles down to a sweet robust tonka and vanilla. Quality is Chanel so you're set. Even though the name says sport this is not a sporty fragrance to my nose, it's a more elegant night out with a good combination of freshness and sweetness. This has the highest compliment ratio out of anything in my collection of ~70 frags. I save this juice for special occasions or when I want to impress a female on a first encounter. It's that knock out punch in the designer world.

The Oud Black Vanilla Absolute leans masculine IMO. More so than a lot of other vanilla scents that are unisex. I recommend it, although it's not readily available at the usual suspects. You can get a decant off of eBay for cheap if you don't want to buy a bottle blind.

Original A*Men is the best of the bunch. It has a unique tar note that makes it special, and unmistakeably masculine.

I would be shocked to smell OBVA on a woman, it's a little sweet with the vanilla, but still has a funky oud note that wouldn't work on a woman, IMO. And if you want a really medicinal oud note with your vanilla, try Raghba. Same note profile, but more bitter agarwood. And it's an authentic Middle Eastern creation, and cheaper than OBVA, too.

And as the other brahs have stated, the black vanilla absolute does have a oud like quality...it's obviously not real oud and it's ever so slight in the background and gives a deeper woody masculine vibe. It's definitely not straight up masculine, I won't complain if a girl has it on, but it's definitely more for a guy. I believe those sites are legit and I know the perry Ellis is a little harder to find but it is a gem for the price. After I bought my first bottle, I immediately got a backup

I think I'd like to have around 5, which would be plenty for me. Maybe one or two more. I had gotten down to just the YSL and the Light Blue Intense (your last recommendation) recently, but with the YSL gone, I realize how bad I need options. Definitely need something to fill the dark, sexy, date night category as you put it. The LB gets compliments all the time but it just didn't feel right putting it on at night a couple times after the YSL ran out. To me that's almost strictly daytime. Already blind ordered the CH Men Prive. Reading the description of whiskey and leather, plus your own description as well, that was an easy sell. Hell, everything recommended by everyone sounds great based on what I read but that one just stood out. Maybe a more rare occasion one, but I wanted it lol.

Came across Jeremy Fragrance's youtube channel digging around tonight. A few that kept popping in just about all of the videos I watched were Dior Sauvage, Emporio Armani Stronger With You, and JPG Ultra Male. Saw @sloops Le Male in a few as well. Probably going to dig into those a little more tomorrow and maybe add one out of that list if it sounds like it will fill a void in some other category.

In short, people say they like it, it's different than the original, but not wildly mind blowing.

A few that kept popping in just about all of the videos I watched were Dior Sauvage, Emporio Armani Stronger With You, and JPG Ultra Male. Saw @sloops Le Male in a few as well. Probably going to dig into those a little more tomorrow and maybe add one out of that list if it sounds like it will fill a void in some other category.

Take Jeremy's channel with a grain of salt as he can be a bit of a hype beast. Ultra Male is really fkn good. It's a bit sweet but damn it's strong AF and smells fantastic. Performance is over the top.

What kind of notes did you pick up on this one? I struggle with identifying any 1 discernible note, it's hard to describe. "Soft spicy" is the only way to put it.

Lol I watched one toward the end of the night where he gave his own that just came out the #1 spot on a top 10 list. Took a step back at that point and realized I better do my own research too. Those were ones that stood out though, at least from repetition. Maybe they are sending him the biggest checks lol.

Biggest problem right now with wanting to stick to around 5 or so, and cover a wide range of occasions/situations, is that everything sounds good. As I read about one, I get distracted by another, and then THAT one sounds great. I see how you can easily end up with a massive collection overnight.
