I'll be honest I'm pretty turned off about frags atm. Due date for my Alexandria stuff was today and nothing came. I'm pretty nervous but I will check my post office next week

On a side note I just wanna shout out Armaf CDNIM. I think it's amazing for what you pay. Still have never smelled Aventoos but CDNIM is hella smoky, has freshness and is a performance BEAST all for 30 bucks? No wonder I have 4 bottles of this stuff.

Yo Papillo, do you still have a sample of Amber Cologne to test against Musk Cologne? I DO remember thinking MC was the better of the two but right now i only have AC and think it's stupid amazing without MC to compare it directly against. I'm debating paying $270 for the one single bottle of MC I see available or if I should get a readily available AC for $190 instead. I think MC is a little brighter and less versatile than AC perhaps?


Going out for dinner and drinks tonight. Temps down to 45F/7C, debating on my scent of the evening. Want to go with something i couldn't pull off in the warmer weather. Im debating on Bortnikoff Bonheur, Roja Great Britain, or Russian Oud. Hell i'm even contemplating going into my all black Parisian Chic bag and busting out Diaghilev lol

Yes sir. i do have amber cologne. I have to find and test it again, but i think its a bit redundant to own both. I believe i preferred Musk over Amber because i noticed the grapefruit in amber and its a note i'm not a fan of. I also got a bit more sandalwood from MO. If you like AO, there is no need for a full bottle of musk. Just wait til you find a deal on a partial.

I love reading your guys posts about these new releases. Before this thread I had no idea how much hype there was around these niche releases and how competitive it can be to get some frags. I’m not dipping my toes in those waters because I can’t justify that spending right now, but it’s crazy all the different interests out there you have no idea even exists

I snatched the PDLN2. Refrained from the F&M due to the reviews saying there was noticeable overlap with Kuwait. Plus believe it or not, I think I still have too many different frags.

I dunno man... I’m considering selling off my Kuwait. I ran through my first bottle before I acquired the Aoud. Now that I have it, whenever I go to reach for Kuwait I opt for the Aoud instead because it “does Kuwait better than Kuwait” if that makes any sense.

I haven’t smelled CDNIM, but I feel like it’d be like having CDNIM and a vintage batch of Aventus in the same collection. I’m likely going to sell my Oud Silk Mood and Kuwait to fund more bottles of Amber Cologne while I can. I wear Bortnikoff Bonheur as a higher quality OSM, and Roja Aoud for a perfumey sweet/dark frag. The Amber Cologne has basically become ******* to my nose and I would bathe in it if financially feasible.

You probably got a sample from a newer batch which does, in fact, suck. The older ones last way longer.

That's really not bad. I remember before I got in the frag game when I would got to Macy's to pick out a bottle of the one frag i'd wear all year (crazy).

The prices start at 69.99 but by the time the sales sloot talked you into buying the big bottle with accompanying skindrying shower gel... add taxes and you're staring at a cash register total that said $158.23 like...

Crazy part is I distinctly remember wearing La Nuit back then. It was to 2011 what Sauvage is to today.

Her friend starts talking to me about frags so I ask him what he has. Dude has zero niche, but a bunch of designers that are mostly on the cheaper end. Bunch of versace, perry ellis, dolce and gabbana, CK, Kenneth Cole. His most expensive is probably chanel bleu EDT.


And she thinks he's a fragrance God. Lol.

Goes to show how far disconnected we can get from reality when we start going down that rabbit hole. If you like those expensive scents, by all means enjoy them for you. The vast majority of people would prefer to smell those shower fresh/sweet/woody designer scents on you.

If I take her on a date I'll wear some Versace Eros and call it a day lol.

Truth.

Most niche fragrances are complex, with a lot of notes that discerning fragheads can usually identify. But the average person isn't looking for that, and their initial reaction is simply like/don't like, good/bad smell. I've gotten more compliments on cheap or mid-range fragrances than I do on expensive niche stuff. I think the niche scents are more for the wearer's benefit, and not so much for the potential audience. I've heard plenty of females say Aventus is trash, but some dudes swear it's the greatest fragrance ever made. And I also believe a lot of the niche hype is self-justification for dropping a ton of cash on a name alone. Nobody wants to admit they paid a lot for an average, or even widely disappointing scent.

No news here for me. I always said if I was in the frag game to get the most amount of compliments, I'd pick up a bottle of $30 CDNIM or $45 Alexandria Fragrances King Tut and be done. Just like if I drank liquor strictly to get drunk I'd pick up some $15 corner-store prosecco and call it a day, but the joy i get from Dalwhinnie scotch or Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout is worth the price of admission (to me).

I revisited a sample of it again in the last year and I think I get it. You know how Aventus, 540 Extrait, Layton, etc more or less make their living over a catchy-gimmicky opening? Well YSL La nuit was the opposite of that. It just worked.

Not entirely unlike the way Bleu de Chanel "just works", but La Nuit was released a year before BdC which leads me to believe that they set the market/hype for that genre of scent. I would never seek out a bottle for my collection realistically, but I think $130 for one of the OG 2009-2012 bottles is perfectly reasonable.
