As noted, with manning nowadays (and another 23,000 or so Navy billets getting slashed in the next few years), getting out basically means OUT.
Options:
- Do what you can while underway, get back into swimming and major running after deployment (SEALs deploy via submarines on a regular basis... and they manage to stay in shape)
- Finish this tour, transfer to shore duty, continue to improve, mature, and get promoted. If this is your long-term career goal, then it can wait a few years.

miss the steel beach days - I assume they do not do "smokers" anymore on steel beach days..... I fought in a smoker match back when I was a mess crank. Fought some d'bag that called himself "iceman" - what a tool this guy was. I think even the XO wanted me to kick this guys a$$. It took the referee (some Ltjg) and about three others to break us up after the bell ending the first round. They never let us have a round two.

Is it recommended that I have a bank account set up before going into boot camp or is it ok to open a new one with the Navy while processing? I have my own savings/checking account already but it's linked to my parents accounts and I don't want that. I'm with Wells Fargo so do you guys know if my parents will still be able to mess with my account once I turn 18?

How quickly do you think it'd take some one to build up a solid swim base for special forces whos not a real great swimmer? I wanna do it but I'm not a great swimmer. Everything else is easy besides that.

it's really dependent upon the person, how much time each day you put into learning and how well you adapt to the pool. one of my friends who shipped out as SEAL last month took about 1 year of consistent training on his own doing the side stroke to get down to an 8:50 and that was with about 2 months of my help. there are other guys who manage to get down to an 8:30 on their own and some cant get below 9...it's just really dependent upon the person. just watch side stroke videos and go to sealswcc.com and there is a sub forum for swimming related questions where you will find an answer for pretty much anything.
swimming is all about technique, so dont worry about speed and how much you're swimming per day until the stroke becomes second nature and you can do it without having to think about the motions and fluidity of the stroke itself.
right now what they are considering a competitive time for the 500y CSS is around 8:30, so that's just a little perspective of what most people are shooting for right now<3 http://i.imgur.com/pnCvw.gif <3

Damn I just watched my room inspector get sprayed by the automatic air freshener. I didn't know if I was suppose to laugh or prepare the anus. Still passed though haha.
